MEET THE MAKER:
Chainsaw artist and wood carver
Shlomit Moria is a female wood carver and chainsaw artist based in Warburton. At her workshop in Ecoss, Shlomit creates her art and works on commissions for playgrounds, schools, and other public and private art projects. Recently, she began facilitating whittling workshops, where she shares her love of wood and teaches the basics of 3D design, woodwork, and carving.
“My work is based on the philosophy of salvage, restore and recycle. I love living in a community where sustainability is a choice people make in daily life and I love nature.”
Shlomit has a university degree in Graphic Art and is a member of the Association of Sculpture Victoria and Yarra Valley Arts. She participates in the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, and her work has been presented at many exhibitions, including the prestigious Yering Sculpture Prize.
Shlomit is our feature artist at this year's festival and will be offering a collaborative woodcarving activity throughout the day, and the finished work will then be presented to the Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House Community.
