Immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of the Central Australian Outback
Cabin accommodation, pool, camping. Ooraminna Homestead offers several luxury accommodation options as well as a unique function and events venue. Located just 30 minutes south of Alice Springs, this 600 acre property is widely known nationally and internationally. Nestled between the MacDonnell Ranges and the Simpson Desert- Ooraminna is stunningly beautiful, with ghost gums, craggy rocky outcrops, red sand hills and desert oaks- Ooraminna is the real outback! Ooraminna was created by the Hayes family in 1995 to meet the demand of tourists wanting a true outback experience. A film set depicting a 1920’s outback township is set on the property and creates the perfect scene for large Dinner groups and evenings under the stars that are never forgotten. There are several unique Dinner sites on the property including a large shed built as a wet weather alternative, a homestead with verandah, patio and terrace area plus other purpose built buildings. Ooraminna also operates Luxury accommodation cabins, offering guests a longer stay and chance to experience the outback. A Campground with shower and toilet blocks is available to cater for those in 5th wheelers, camper trailers, tents or swags. Groups can be catered for who wish to ‘swag’ overnight. Located just half an hour South of Alice Springs and even less from the Alice Springs airport, Ooraminna is easily accessible which adds to its attraction.

Have you ever seen Australia's largest lizard in the wild? We are fortunate to have impressive perenties around Ooraminna Homestead 🏜️

These shy, sleek, fast-moving desert hunters feed on insects, birds, small mammals and other lizards, but offer very little threat to humans as they usually flee as soon as they can sense you're around.

This little guy was spotted today...and we say little because they can get up to 2.5 metres and 20kg.

Perenties are a species of monitor lizard, like the goanna, and you'll only find them in the arid and semi-arid outback regions of Australia.

If it ever comes up in a trivia quiz question, Perenties are the world's fourth largest lizard, behind the Komodo Dragon, Asian Water Monitor and Crocodile Monitor.

We're loving welcoming these colourful locals this week. The Galahs, also known as pink and grey cockatoos, are very social, chatty and endlessly entertaining with their whacky antics around the BBQ terrace 🩷🩶

Do you have a favourite Aussie bird that you've spotted in the Outback?
