WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that this story includes images of an Indigenous person who has died. The Parrtjima Festival has been given permission to include her name and image.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rhoda Roberts AO, a visionary curator, storyteller and cultural leader whose influence shaped Parrtjima for a decade.
Rhoda’s impact on Parrtjima and across the Northern Territory has been profound and enduring. As Curator for ten years, she was instrumental in shaping Parrtjima into a globally recognised celebration of culture on Country, bringing stories, language and identity to life through light, art and storytelling in the heart of Mparntwe. Her leadership elevated the voices of Central Australian artists and ensured culture remained at the centre of the festival’s vision.
Beyond Parrtjima, Rhoda strengthened connections between communities, artists and audiences across the Territory, leaving a cultural legacy that will continue to guide and inspire.
Despite her private health journey, Rhoda curated Parrtjima 2026 with the same dedication, love and generosity she brought to every year and the festival team is honoured to bring to life that vision on her behalf one last time.
Her legacy will live on in every story shared, every artwork illuminated, and every gathering on Country.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Vale Rhoda.
