Alexandra Pro Rodeo Postponed, April 2026 Edition Coming

Alexandra has been significantly impacted by the recent fires. Many people in our community have lost homes, others have lost stock, fencing, sheds, or parts of their property. As a town, we are now moving from initial response into recovery, and that will take time. Current advice is that this fire event will continue to be active for weeks to come.

Every member of the Alexandra Pro Rodeo committee is deeply involved in different parts of the emergency and recovery effort right now. Because of this, and out of respect for what our community is dealing with, we have made the decision not to run the Alexandra Pro Rodeo this weekend.

Instead, the Alexandra Pro Rodeo will be postponed until April 2026, with the exact date to be confirmed shortly.

But there is an opportunity in this pause.

With time now on our side, we want to dedicate the 2026 Alexandra Pro Rodeo to rebuilding our community. This will be a disaster recovery-focused event. A bigger event, more entertainment, a stronger rodeo program, more for families and visitors, and more opportunities to directly support Alexandra and the people affected by these fires.

We are no strangers to using our events to back important local causes. Over the years, we have helped fund and build community infrastructure, supported men’s health initiatives through our hospital, invested in aged care, and much more. This time, the cause is personal. These fires have hit close to home, and they have affected people we know, work with, and care about.

So we are all in on making the April edition of the Alexandra Pro Rodeo the very best it can be, and using it to support our community in a meaningful way.

We know there will be questions, particularly around tickets. Existing tickets will automatically transfer to the new April date. We also understand the new date may suit some people better than others, and that’s okay. We will work through those details and share clear information shortly.

For now, we ask just three things:

Please don’t come to Alexandra for the rodeo this weekend. If you’re keen for rodeo, consider supporting another event elsewhere.

Keep our community and emergency crews front of mind over the coming weeks.

Thanks for your patience.

As you know, the Alexandra Pro Rodeo is NOT running tonight. That announcement was made several days ago.

As predicted, the situation in/around Alexandra was extraordinarily challenging yesterday, and there is still much fire activity in the area today. Many locals have tragically lost property, hay, stock, and more.

Our focus this weekend will be on supporting those in the community who have been directly impacted. We'll follow up with some more Rodeo announcements shortly (eg Monday if not before).

Following an emergency management briefing today with CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, SES, and the local Incident Control Centre, the decision has been made to postpone the Alexandra Pro Rodeo scheduled for this weekend.

While weather conditions are expected to ease on Saturday, the Catastrophic fire danger forecast for tomorrow and the potential of ongoing fire activity over coming days presents a real risk. Authorities have advised they cannot support the event proceeding, and we fully agree that everyone's safety must come first.

The Alexandra Pro Rodeo will now be rescheduled to Friday 16 January.

We understand there will be lots of questions around tickets, travel, competitors, and next steps. We are working through these now and will provide clear updates in the comments below as soon as possible.

It's hot out there, there's no denying! And people keep asking the question - is the rodeo still on?

The Alexandra Pro Rodeo is still running on Saturday 10th Jan.

But let's frame that:
- Keeping everyone safe is always our top priority. Whether that's competitors, crew, the stock, or the many thousands of fantastic people like yourself who come to enjoy the event.
- The forecast is still showing a refreshing change overnight on Friday/Sat morning, bringing temps and conditions back to a balmy high 20s for our event on Saturday evening.
- There are some challenges in this weather (moving stock, bumping in the last of the event infrastructure, etc), however, that's all in hand.
- The team are monitoring conditions closely and in regular discussions with APRA, authorities, etc.

So, if you've booked a ticket (or you're still on the fence)... we can't wait to see you on Saturday afternoon!

One last note... things change. Tomorrow is a concern for all Victorians, and there are already active fires that we are monitoring closely. Weather like this means that things can change quickly. If it does, we'll keep you updated via our page.

But at the moment, the weather is looking kind and cool for Saturday and we can't wait to see you on the other side of this hot weather. Until then, stay cool.
