Hi there I am planning to complete an Ice Mile between 20th - 22nd June this year (2022)! What is an Ice Mile (I hear you ask)? An Ice Mile is a 1.6km swim in water under 5 degrees Celsius wearing only a swimming costume, goggles and cap! Why (on earth would you do such a thing)? The pandemic has ha...

On the first Wednesday in March 2014, we hosted our first Albury Wodonga Big Splash to raise awareness for mental health and funds for headspace Albury Wodonga and the Survivors of Su***de & Friends.
We were fortunate to squeeze in our seventh big splash in March 2020 between the bushfires and the start of the pandemic to bring the total amount donated to these important and local organisations to over $100k!
Planning for the big splash usually begins in August, and as the pandemic has continued to plague us all, we remain in recess.
In the meantime, we remember the good times, all the volunteers, our sponsors, and all who came together to make this such a memorable and successful event!
Take care and keep the conversation going, mental health is more important than ever!

These guys understand the importance of mental health, they are the Albury Open Water Swim Group, you may have seen them dressed as Trumps, Geriatrics or other slightly non PC get ups over the years at the Big Splash! As this years event was pan-demicked, they had a night out instead at La Maison Restaurant - Bar & Function Centre, also a sponsor of the Big Splash! Together they raised over $1,000 and donated the proceeds to Australians for Mental Health (AFMH) with the proceeds going to the Survivors of Su***de & Friends organization who host the Winter Solstice event!
Well done and many thanks!

OUR RACE LANES ARE EMPTY SO PLEASE SPEND YOUR BIG SPLASH DOLLARS LOCALLY. We are disappointed that due to the pandemic, this March we will not be running our annual Albury Wodonga Big Splash. We are a community event organised to raise awareness for mental health and su***de as well as much needed funds for headspace Albury Wodonga and Survivors of Su***de & Friends / Winter Solstice, so we are feeling this loss enormously because this is a year where it is more important than ever for people to get together and smile and have fun.

In the past we have been proud to have hosted 7 Big Splash events, held 140 relay races and cheered on over 800 relay teams. That is almost 7,000 legs kicking in the pool and donating in excess of $100,000 towards mental health support services.

Please reach out to your Big Splash team mates, your costume buddies, friends and family and to get together in one of our local restaurants, cafes or businesses. Many of these businesses have supported the Big Splash (and, therefore, our community) in the past and could really use our help right now.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR BIG SPLASH 2021 EVENT

Following the bushfires last summer and the onset of the pandemic, we were very fortunate to be able to
host the 2020 Big Splash despite drought breaking rain falling throughout the day of the event!

After experiencing the devastation of the pandemic and associated restrictions on our social fabric, we have
been faced with the dilemma of planning for the 2021 Big Splash. We are mindful of the risks, the
sensitivities and the health and safety of our community.

Government regulations at the time of this
announcement restrict such an event to 500 people with appropriate COVID safe procedures.

We have therefore resolved to take a β€œCOVID Year”. The 2021 Big Splash event as we know it will not go
ahead, instead we are planning a function in its place, to celebrate the Big Splash events held to date and
recognise our sponsors, volunteers, participants (their costumes), and the community who made the Big
Splash a success.

More details regarding the Big Splash function will be made available in the New Year.

On behalf of the organising committee, we thank you for your continued support!

Stephen Mamouney

Don't forget Winter Solstice is on Sunday at 6pm. No need to wear your winter woolies this year as the event will be live on their page. This is a really important annual event for our community to show our commitment to mental health and to acknowledge the toll taken by su***de in Albury Wodonga and beyond. It is free, no registrations required.

David Astle has been an absolute stalwart for Winter Solstice. Since the very beginning he has stood up on stage with us every year and hosted our event showing his commitment to those who have been affected by su***de and mental ill health.

This year, as our event adapted - David kindly agreed to host live from a studio in Melbourne and support us to deliver our virtual event. We are so grateful to have him on board with this years amazing line up. Thanks DA.

Join us this Sunday.

Where: Live, here on our page
When: Sunday 21 June at 6PM AEST

This is a live event. No registration required. Just be following our page for details.
