Nobody likes event regulations.
We don’t like writing them. We don’t like having to go through them over & over again with people & lets be honest most of you don’t care for them either. Trust me we do get it.
However, without some basic rules we can’t go racing so we’ve got some rules. Thankfully there’s a basic set of rules that we can use from The Perth Motorplex & ANDRA to go racing simply, sensibly & safely.
We all know how the rules work & we all know how the rules are applied at The Perth Motorplex. We don’t believe in kicking people out for no good reason at our events, but we also won’t allow people to take the p**s. So what does that mean if you think you’re going to run numbers your car isn’t teched for?
Well, you could do what Jamie & I are doing with the AU & get the car up to spec to run the speeds it can OR you can simply dial it back a bit or lift off and run the numbers your car is tech’d to run over the ¼ mile & roll on’s.
One option might cost some cash, the other option might result in someone “chopping you” at the deep end but does it really matter at the end of the day given it's a "fun focused event"? Personally, I don’t think so and if you want to go racing for sheep stations (or at least whatever is in the prize pool) there’s always Cash Days.
(And look maybe if there’s enough support, we run bracket racing classes as well for people to opt in to so if you can’t step up & get fully teched you can still be in with a shot of winning something without blowing thru your speed caps. Let me know in the comments below)
As a side note ANDRA have developed a set of tailored exemptions for all the new “too fast from factory” stuff that comes off the production line ready to race. Think Tesla’s, Hellcats, AMG’s, BMW M’s, RS Audi’s as well as the usual Supercar & Hypercar exotica. So, if you’ve got a Ferrari SF90 on order you won’t need to bolt a Parachute on the back of it & you won’t need to cage your McLaren or have Arm Restrains in your AMG GT. They’re built for going f*cking fast & ANDRA recognizes that passive & active safety technology in these cars is better than what’s found in the 00’s, 90’s and older stuff many of us still love to race.
Hopefully that makes a bit more sense to people & while we will never keep everyone happy with event regulations (and there’s no point trying to) we will do what we can to keep people safe. That’s something we won’t compromise on & importantly I hope that like us you all see the merit in racing as safely as possible as well.
Now we’ve got that out of the way let’s talk competition classes & why they’ve broken in to 3 tiers. See you all again tomorrow.
Jon.
