Owning a 170+ year old home sounds romantic… until you realise something always needs fixing.

Rotting timber.
Leaking gutters.
Cracked stone.
Old pipes.
Paint that never quite lasts.

The truth is, heritage homes aren’t “finished”. They’re constantly evolving, repairing, restoring and demanding attention. But somehow, in amongst the hard work, there’s still so much beauty in being the custodian of a place that has stood for generations before you.

Every repair is part of preserving its story.
Not always glamorous… but always worth it. 🤍

There’s a bit of everything happening here at the moment…

We pressed our Shiraz yesterday, which always feels like such a moment.
Billys put in a lot of work leading up to it, and then suddenly… it’s done.
Now we wait.

Monday I eased back into art class after missing a few weeks. But today will be a slower kind of day.
Im putting together a vision board — just what I’d love the next 12 months to look like.
For me, and for Marybank.

Nothing too overthought… just getting it out of my head and onto paper.

Easter’s not far away either,
so it’s those little resets around the house.

And out in the garden, it’s that shift into prep again.
Beds ready for ranunculus,
taking geranium cuttings,
starting to think ahead to what’s next.

It feels different to the start of the year.
We had that slow time…after Christmas but summer here is a lot.
The heat makes everything feel hard.

This though… this is the good kind of season.

Autumn is easily my favourite season at Marybank.
Everything softens a bit.
You can think clearly again.
The garden colours are amazing!

Marybank has been in our family for seven generations and it’s a place we’ve always cared for deeply. The gardens, the vineyard and the homestead carry the history of those who’ve lived here and it’s a privilege to continue that legacy. Since mum & dad moved in back in 1996, the property has grown and changed a lot with new plantings, the Barn Loft B&B and the vineyard all coming to life.

Billy and I have carried that on, nurturing the gardens, tending the vines and keeping the estate feeling alive and welcoming. Most days, you’ll find us working in the gardens. When we’re not planting, pruning or harvesting, we’re making lists, fixing fences, repairing buildings or hosting our B&B guests. We like to be hands-on in everything we do.

Our philosophy is simple: care, honesty and authenticity. The gardens aren’t over-manicured, they’re natural, intimate and inviting. Everything we do from looking after the vineyard to making our wine, is about being involved, not just watching from afar. We want Marybank to feel special and exclusive, but still family-oriented and welcoming.
