The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is a biennial event pitching the world's brightest emerging minds in engineering against one another to build and operate a solar car from Darwin to Adelaide, South Australia through the harsh Australian outback The blistering sun that powers the car, specifically designed for the World Solar Challenge, can push daytime temperatures over 50 degrees. There are
tropical downpours, vicious crosswinds, willy willies and dust storms. Then there are road trains-53 metre monsters barrelling along at 100Kph. Ask what the World Solar Challenge is about, and you will get many answers. There are so many elements driving technology in electric vehicles today, that the Challenge is no longer about any one advancement in photovoltaics, energy management, advanced materials or electrical engineering alone. Ultimately it is a design Challenge that rewards innovation, teamwork and human endeavour. COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
