Mondays Medieval Marvels..

LAGUARDIA, SPAIN

Set in Spain's famous La Rioja W**e region is the historic, walled Medieval town of Laguardia in the Basque Country which dates back to the 10th Century.

Originally constructed as a defensive town for the Kingdom of Navarrè, this beautiful village is one of Spain's hidden gems.

Entry is through a handful of imposing gates which takes you to a magnificent web of traffic free streets.

Under ground there are approx 200 sub surface tunnels that weave below the streets and bring Laguardia's Medieval history to life.

So if you are planning on a trip to Spain, a visit to the Medieval village Laguardia, is a must!

Thursdays Trivia Treats

Stool Ball, an ancient English team game that is widely considered as a forerunner of modern cricket dates back over 500 years with the first written record around 1450.

Legend has it that the game was invented by Milk Maids who used their wooden milking stools as the target or wickets and milk bowls as bats.

The game is played with up to 11 people with 2 targets and a batter who has to defend the target from a ball bowled underarm with no bounce.

The game is still a popular team sport and has been modernised for those who play the game today!

Monday's Medieval Marvels

The Cairo Citadel (or Saladin Citadel) is a spectacular medieval Islamic-era fortress in Egypt. Commissioned by the legendary Salah ad-Din (Saladin) in 1176 AD to defend against Crusaders, it served as the seat of government for nearly 700 years and is indeed one of the marvels of the Medieval world.
