אנחנו מצטערים לאכזב, אבל אין כל קשר גיזרוני (אטימולוגי) בין שתי המילים. ❌
‏‏
ולמרות זאת דוברי העברית בימינו אכן מתרגמים את דרך ההתבטאות by far בצירוף העברי 'בפער' בגלל דמיון הצליל.
‏
והם לא לבד!

במאה התשע עשרה ובראשית המאה העשרים התחבב על הסופרים העבריים הנוהג לחדש צירופים בעברית המחקים את צליל המילה הלועזית שהם מתרגמים.
‍‍‏
וכך נמצא בעיתונות העברית של התקופה את הצירופים: פרטי־כל (פרוטוקול), חולירע (כולרה), דילוג רב (טלגרף), בו דעה (בודהה), אור הכל (אורקל), פאר עמוד (פירמידה), קנה און (kanone, תותח), אותו מוביל (אוטומוביל), פתק אוויל (פשקוויל).

והינה כמה מילים שחודשו תוך שימור הצליל והמשמעות (תשמו"ץ – "תרגום שומר משמעות וצליל", מונח שטבע הבלשן גלעד צוקרמן):
