This evening, Beth Taylor sings the title role in Handel’s "Orlando" at Longborough Festival Opera, in a new production directed by Sinéad O'Neill and conducted by Christopher Moulds, leading the Academy of Ancient Music. Further performances follow on June 3, 5, and 7.

One of Handel’s most psychologically complex operas, "Orlando" places its title character at the center of an extraordinary dramatic journey, demanding virtuoso coloratura, a wide tessitura, and exceptional expressive depth. The role provides an ideal showcase for Beth Taylor, now firmly established in the Baroque repertoire, allowing her to bring her trademark combination of technical agility and dramatic intensity to one of Handel’s most challenging creations.

This evening, Michael Spyres appears at the Festival de Saint-Denis in the majestic Basilica of Saint-Denis alongside soprano Rachel Redmond, Vox Luminis, and conductor Lionel Meunier in a program dedicated to Bach and Handel. The concert features Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day.

Widely celebrated for his versatility across an exceptionally broad repertoire, the American baritenor has, since the beginning of his career, also been a highly admired interpreter of Baroque music, combining stylistic refinement with remarkable virtuoso agility and brilliance in coloratura passages.

This evening and again on June 7, 2026, Michael Spyres sings Siegmund in Wagner’s "Die Walküre" at the Wiener Staatsoper, in Sven-Eric Bechtolf’s production conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado.

These performances conclude an especially busy month of May for the American baritenor at the Wiener Staatsoper, following acclaimed appearances in Donizetti’s "L’elisir d’amore" and Strauss’s "Der Rosenkavalier".

In recent years, Michael Spyres has also established himself as one of today’s leading Wagner interpreters, as recently demonstrated by his celebrated performances in the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of "Tristan und Isolde."

Toi, toi, toi to Nicolas Legoux, who this evening returns to one of his signature works, singing the bass solo in Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Slovak Philharmonic, conducted by Sascha Goetzel, at the Reduta Concert Hall in Bratislava.

A cornerstone of his repertoire, Verdi’s monumental score has accompanied Nicolas Legoux on major European stages, including a performance at the Musikverein in Vienna in 2023.

This afternoon and on May 10 and 11, Beth Taylor appears in Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 8, the so-called “Symphony of a Thousand,” making her Wiener Philharmoniker debut under Andris Nelsons at the Wiener Konzerthaus.

She returns to this vast choral work just over a month after performing it at the Salzburg Easter Festival with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko.
