At the start of the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Team Championship in the Open category, both ÖSBV teams put in some ambitious performances, which unfortunately go unrewarded at the end of the day.

While Team 🇦🇹 Austria 1, featuring Mario Bodlos and Jérôme, had to accept a clear defeat to 🇵🇱 Poland 2, Team 🇦🇹 Austria 2, with European Championship debutants Emil Becker and Josef Wimmer, put up more of a fight in their defeats against 🇲🇹 Malta 2 and 🇫🇷 France 1. Nevertheless, these results, combined with the outcomes of the parallel matches, already mean that Austria 2 is eliminated after the group stage.

On the second day of the competition, Austria 1 will face 🇫🇷 France 2 and 🇧🇬 Bulgaria 3, with a place in the final rounds at stake and Austria 2 wants to finish it in style with a win over 🇩🇪 Germany 2.

With a clear defeat on the second day of the competition, Team 🇦🇹 Austria 2, featuring Gunter Kulle and Daniel Seyser, also bow out after the group stage of the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Senior Team Championships in Sofia.

The performances of both teams also highlight just how unpredictable sport can sometimes be. Team Austria 1, despite recording two victories, missed out on progressing to the final rounds by a single frame, finishing third in their group. Team Austria 2 also finished third in their group without winning a single frame and ultimately ended up in the same 15th place overall.

Over the coming days, the players in the Open category will take centre stage, with the Teams, 6 Reds and Shoot-out events offering the chance to battle for progression and European Championship medals.

Hans "Jack" Nirnberger 🇦🇹 leaves the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Seniors Championships in Sofia with two Top-20 finishes.

The promotion in the team event, which he contested alongside Christian Hochmayer, was missed by the narrowest of margins — just one frame — and will probably leave a bitter taste for some time. In the singles event, he recorded two good wins in the group stages before suffering a clear defeat in the first round of the knockouts. However, the final frame was extremely tight and could have proved to be the turning point that might have changed the course of the match.

Nevertheless, with an overall record of 4 wins and 3 losses, there is every reason to draw a positive conclusion, while also highlighting his clear Top-10 potential for future appearances.

Unfortunately, Christian Hochmayer 🇦🇹 narrowly missed out on reaching the final rounds in both of his events at the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Seniors Championship.

In the Team event, which he contested alongside Jack Nirnberger, they were just one frame short of progressing. In the singles event, he recorded one win and two clear defeats in a strong group that included two eventual quarter-finalists, leaving him further away from the knockout stages.

Overall, he finishes with a balanced record of three wins and three losses. However, given the proven potential of the multiple Austrian champion, there is every reason to expect even stronger results in future appearances.

Team 🇦🇹 Austria 1, featuring Christian Hochmayer and Jack Nirnberger, managed two 3️⃣🤝1️⃣ victories on the opening day of the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Seniors Teams Championship — only to learn the hard way just how important every single frame can be in a group stage. 😩

Despite securing a comfortable head-to-head victory over 🇮🇪 Ireland 2, the Irish team ultimately finished ahead of Austria by just one frame on frame difference, knocking our top team out of the competition. A bitter way for Christian and Jack to see their campaign come to an end after two good wins.

Team 🇦🇹 Austria 2, represented by Gunter Kulle and Daniel Seyser, had to accept a defeat to 🇲🇹 Malta in their first match, but the dream is still alive. Their second and final match against 🇵🇱 Poland 1 in the three-team group , takes place tomorrow morning at 9:00 CET. They’ll need a win to book their spot in the knockout rounds.

Mario Bodlos 🇦🇹 is the highest-ranked and most experienced player on the international circuit in the ÖSBV squad competing at the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Championships. He will compete in the 6 Reds, Shoot-Out and Team events, taking place from September 14 to 20.

In the Team event, which is played in the Scotch Doubles format, he will team up with Jérôme Liedtke to represent Team 🇦🇹 Austria 1. They will face 🇫🇷 France 2, 🇵🇱 Poland 2 and 🇧🇬 Bulgaria 1, battling for a place in the knockout stage.

Emil Becker 🇦🇹 is set to make his international debut for the ÖSBV at the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Championships in Sofia. From September 14 to 20, he will represent Austria in the 6 Reds and Team events.

Josef Wimmer 🇦🇹 is eagerly looking forward to his first international appearance for the Austrian Snooker National Team at the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Championships in Sofia.

The Upper Austrian, who has already been selected for the ÖSBV squad in Billiards, will compete from September 14 to 20 in the 6 Reds and Teams event.

Unfortunately, Jack Nirnberger 🇦🇹 couldn’t pull off an upset on Day 3 and was beaten by Gary Miller 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 in the Last 32 of the European Billiards and Snooker Association Seniors Championship. He therefore finishes the singles competition as the best ÖSBV athlete, sharing 17th place overall.

Together with Christian Hochmayer, who unfortunately missed out on the knockout stages after finishing third in his group, he will continue in the team competition from Sunday as Team 🇦🇹 Austria 1.

Daniel Seyser and Gunter Kulle, also eliminated after the group stages, will be competing as Team 🇦🇹 Austria 2.
