Now it's over. After the ButohBrunchPerformance in the morning the last two performances took place tonight.Time has passed far too quickly, and these wonderful, expressive, and warm-hearted artists are already scattered all over the world. These were intense days full of impressive impressions, and I thank all the artists of Butohresque - Vienna butoh Festival Vol. 5 once again. See you again in two years!

Day 2 of the Performances - a long long dream of mine came true: the stunning Yuko Kobayashi, my role model at Dairakudakan, gave a performance in Vienna. After that 9 incredible students danced in the choreography by and with the great Joan Laage I Kogut Butoh - what a gift this day was!

The first day of the festival was overwhelming. The opening started with an amazing performance by our special guest, the Brazilian-Austrian ButohDancer Will Lopes. On top of that, the unique Joan Laage I Kogut Butoh spontaneously danced a short duo with him ... and after that we all danced together too the sound scapes of Bernhard Weiss - Deep appreciation to everyone present and thanks from the heart for this energetic moment we shared.

Inspired by a speech given by Tatsumi Hijikata in which he emphasized the body’s intimacy with mud and soil and highlighted Butoh as a unique type of performed ecological practice, the performance 'Bowels of the Earth' by Iván-Daniel Espinosa is opening up the Brunch with an ARTIST TALK by several participants of the festival.Afterwards, the artist can be met in a more informal atmosphere.

One evening two mesmerizing dance performances:

We are incredibly pleased to welcome Yuko Kobayashi, a former long-time member of Dairakudakan, to our festival. Don't miss this outstanding dancer who will be appearing at a festival for the first time.

Immediately afterwards, we proudly present the amazing Joan Laage I Kogut Butoh, who studied with Kazuo Ohno and Yoko Ashikawa in Tokyo in the late 80s and was performing with Ashikawa’s group Gnome.

Ken Mai focuses on Butoh and Meditation world in his teaching.
Combining Butoh, Zen philosophy in his teaching.
He will concentrate on natural movement, breathing exercises, mantra, various methods of movement using the imagination and transformation. By observing the body, mind, breathing, senses, emotion, and the invisible energy of feeling can be found behind the visible movement. How they are related to each other. Listening and seeing the sound of movement and the silence of emptiness holds the key to open your creativity and awakening.

Still looking for some places to stay for our artists - be a host and get free entry to the evening of the artist's performance or 50€

To ensure our wonderful artists have a pleasant stay in a warm environment, we are looking for two hosts.

We are seeking accommodations with private rooms for two female artists each for the maximum period of October 15-20, 2025. (The exact period will be agreed upon with the artist.)

As a thank you, we offer free entry to the opening (16.10.2025) and to the evening of the guest's performance (both 17.10.2025).
