🇲🇽✨ Remembering the magic: Our Mexico Spotlight! ✨🇲🇽

A month ago, the Vienna’s Rathaus came alive for our ICDO cultural festival. Today, we’re looking back at one of the most vibrant and breathtaking presentations: Mexico!

Mexico is a profoundly multicultural country, where indigenous, European, African, and Asian influences have mingled for centuries. This diversity was told not just in music and dance, but through stunning, handcrafted clothing.

Each costume tells a story - of history, mythology, and the environment. We were honored to witness this living history on our stage.

➡️ Swipe through the carousel to see the incredible details we learned about each region!

From the iconic „Charro“ suit of the countryside to the mythological Triqui „Huipil“ that depicts the metamorphosis of butterflies, the craftsmanship and meaning behind each piece were astounding.

It was a true honor for ICDO to host this beautiful display of living heritage in Vienna.

In Jaguar Verde, Antonio Zapata transforms fragments of both personal and collective memory into a vivid allegory of Latin America’s inner pulse. Rooted in stories of family, loss, and renewal, the jaguar emerges as both guardian and witness: fierce yet tender, powerful yet wounded. 🐆💚

📣What do you see in this painting? What does the jaguar symbolize to you? Let us know in the comments👇

This piece, as well as many others, is up for auction for another couple of days. Acquiring one of the pieces supports our Following the Maya Voice Project on the Mexican Yucatán Peninsula directly💚

On the Yucatán Peninsula, the jaguar (b’alam) is sacred in Maya culture. It embodies a creature of the night and a bridge between earthly and spiritual worlds. The jaguar represents divine power and the ability to move between life and death. In Zapata’s work, this ancient spirit returns in new colors: a green jaguar pulsing with the forest’s vitality, the resilience of memory, and the untamed energy of a continent. 🌿🌎

Javier Marten Herrero highlights the important message behind his art: It's about connection and freedom🙌

His work "Motion" (2024) reflects on how cultures, like ecosystems, thrive through movement, interaction, and respect. It offers a visual meditation on
interconnectedness, peaceful coexistence, and the quiet
power of empathy to sustain both the planet and our
human relationships.🌍

👉 This piece, along many others are up for bid until Friday, 10th October.
✨ By acquiring an artwork you directly support ICDO's Following the Maya Voice Project.
