The Johannes Brahms Society is proud to announce the relaunch of the annual competition in the DUO Voice/Piano category! It will take place in Pörtschach am Wörthersee from September 27 until October 4, 2026. 💫💥

The 2026 International Johannes Brahms Competition will once again follow its well-established format, including immediate public jury evaluations after each performance. The competition venue is the historic Villi Cinema.

The repertoire focuses on songs by Johannes Brahms. In addition, compulsory works by Rainer Bischof and Johannes Kropfitsch are required (sheet music available from Doblinger Publishing House).
The jury consists of internationally renowned singers, pianists and cultural managers.

All information, including the program and registration, can be found on the new homepage. We look forward to seeing you at the beautiful shores of Lake Wörthersee at the end of September!

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the legendary cinema in Pörtschach was ceremoniously reopened with a gala concert by the JESS Trio!

Following some renovation work, the Villi Cinema now shines in all its Art Nouveau architectural splendour. Wörthersee architecture at its finest!

Despite thunderstorms and heavy rain, distinguished guests gathered. Music by Beethoven, Bischof — the composer was present — and Brahms transported everyone to a better world. The evening was rounded off with stimulating conversations and an excellent buffet.

Opening of the VILLI Cinema as the Brahms Society’s New Concert Venue with the Jess Trio Vienna 🍾

The Johannes Brahms Society Pörtschach will proudly open its new location with a festive concert on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the historic VILLI Cinema in Pörtschach am Wörthersee. The renowned Jess Trio Vienna, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary on stage, will provide the musical accompaniment. 🎻💫

The ensemble — siblings Johannes, Elisabeth, and Stefan Kropfitsch, all university professors in Vienna — will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven (Piano Trio, Op. 1 No. 2), Rainer Bischof, and Johannes Brahms (Piano Trio, Op. 8 ). Austrian composer Rainer Bischof will deliver a personal laudatory address on the occasion of the ensemble’s anniversary.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., box office opens at 4:00 p.m.

The Johannes Brahms Society is proud to present its newly launched concert series for the year 2026!

The Carinthian Johannes Brahms-Quartet, consisting of Linnea Hurttia (violin), Polina Winkler (violin), Ivan Podyachev (viola)
and Wilhelm Pflegerl (cello) will perform Joseph Haydn's "The Seven Last Words of Christ" from 1878. 🎼✝️💫

The concert will take place on March 29, 2026 (Palm Sunday) in the Protestant church in Pörtschach, starting at 5 p.m.

Don't miss this musical highlight at the beginning of Easter week! Admission is free (voluntary donations welcome).

You may have noticed the new logos and design on our page and homepage. The new year also brings major news from the Johannes Brahms Society in Pörtschach!

All cultural activities and concerts celebrating and contextualising the legacy of our beloved composer will now be directed by the co-founder of the Johannes Brahms Society, Prof. Johannes Kropfitsch!
