🤷🏽‍♀️ How Gen Z and Millennials Change Workplaces?

💼 The Retention Report analyzed a monumental generational shift happening in the workforce. As Gen Z and millennials comprise 58% of the U.S. workforce according to 2022 Pew Research Center, their attitudes, values, and priorities are driving a dramatic evolution in workplace culture.

📊 Deloitte’s massive 2023 survey of 14,800 millennials and Gen Zs worldwide found that for 64%, work-life balance is extremely important.

📈 These generations are 2.5 times as likely to quit in the next year due to lack of flexibility and 3.5 times more likely to quit due to lack of learning and development opportunities compared to older employees.

🗞️A 2023 Gartner survey proves that remote and flexible work options are non-negotiable for younger demographics. 74% percent of millennials expect to be fully remote at least three days per week going forward.

📝 DEI is equally critical - 2023 LinkedIn data shows 80% of Gen Z see a commitment to DEI as pivotal when evaluating employers, higher than any other generation. The companies that will win the war for talent are those evolving their cultures to meet the values of emerging generations.

🇺🇸 Are Layoffs A New US Trend?

📊 GoodTime just released the 2024 Hiring Insights Report, shedding light on the top challenges faced by talent acquisition (TA) teams, their evolving strategies, and how top performers are achieving hiring success.

😔One of the key findings shows that layoffs continue to pose challenges:

📍a 115% layoffs increase compared to 2022
Over 686,000 layoffs were announced between January and November 2023. TA leaders face a shortage of qualified candidates, while many organizations resort to layoffs due to budget constraints or restructuring, creating a disconnect between available talent and job requirements. Despite the surplus of candidates from layoffs, specific qualifications for open roles remain elusive, complicating the hiring landscape.

📍Layoffs wear on employees
Companies that underwent layoffs in 2023 were approximately 83% more likely to report fair or poor engagement from employees. Moreover, nearly one in five (19%) companies that implemented layoffs in 2023 identified mental health and wellness issues as a top challenge facing their employees.

📍Layoffs hit TA hard and exacerbated hiring challenges
43% of surveyed companies noted that increased turnover in recruitment has hampered their ability to maintain a steady candidate pipeline.

📍A light at the end of the tunnel
While layoffs remain prevalent, they appear to be less severe in scale. Encouragingly, our findings indicate that companies implementing layoffs in 2023 generally made smaller reductions compared to 2022.

💭 What are your predictions for 2024? Do you think the tendency for layoffs will decrease?
