Global electricity demand is rising faster than the systems built to carry it.
The IEA expects demand to grow 3.6% in 2026 and 3.8% in 2027, driven by electrification, industry, cooling, EVs and data centres. At the same time, renewables are on track to become the world's largest source of electricity generation in 2026. Renewable output is set to grow by more than 8% this year, with solar PV alone adding around 600 TWh.
Rising demand and a rapidly shifting generation mix put new pressure on the grid. Meeting the moment means accelerating grid investment, building system flexibility and delivering infrastructure at a pace the sector has not had to sustain before. These are the questions World Utilities Congress is built to answer.
Join utility leaders in Abu Dhabi from 25-27 May 2027, hosted by TAQA, to explore the strategies and solutions shaping more flexible, resilient power systems.
