COMMENDED the 32 athletes who have qualified to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through hard work and dedication.

RECAPPED Government’s commitment to supporting all athletes and sport codes at all levels of sport development, with a view of fostering sustainable development for all.

COMMENDED the National Olympic Committee of Zambia for their tireless efforts in facilitating athlete participation in international competitions such as the Olympic Games.

COMMENDED NFs for their crucial role in talent development and excellence which has positively contributed to the qualification of athletes to the Olympics.

APPRECIATED the role that the cooperating partners play in Zambian sport and called on them to continue working with government in development of sport.

HIGHLIGHTED the support of the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government to the athletes throughout your Olympic journey.

WISHED the athletes success and urged them to forge lasting friendships and create memories that will inspire future generations of Zambian athletes.

SPORT, A SUSTAINABLE MEANS FOR DEVELOPMENT

One of Zambia's top footballers, Fashion Sakala jnr recently sponsored the Eastern Province Football Tournament which drew a number of teams from the Region. Congratulations to the winners and the Teams who participated in the thrilling competition. High commendations to Fashion for the grand gesture which some of us can only dream of fulfilling.

One thing that caught my interest is Fashion's donation of wheelchairs to several people with disability. This gesture to the beneficiaries is significant in alleviating their mobility challenges but also solidifies our campaign on sport being a suitable tool for sustainable development.

We have over the years highlighted that if we increase investment in sport, we'll have wider benefits, not only for those who participate in it, but millions of other citizens in the country.

It is comforting to note that the current government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts is creating a conducive environment through which sport can become one of the most impactful sectors that contributes to sustainable development for all.

It is our desire that we can all emulate Fashion Sakala by using all means legally possible including sport to develop our country.

President Hakainde Hichilema while meeting the FIFA President Gianni Infantino made the following important statement which was part of his speech:

"We love football because it's not only a game for footballers and football administrators but a sport for everyone. It's not only a sport for health but a game that also creates numerous business opportunities."

What a short but meaningful statement about the socio-economic value of sport.

Pictures: It was a splendid night filled with glamour and glitter. Several people from all sectors turned up in numbers at the Mulungushi Conference Centre to witness the Cultural Night and Gala Dinner organised by the Zambia Diaspora Organisation.

This follows the successful hosting of the first ever inaugural 2023 Zambia Sports Expo and Forum.

Today, the Local Organising Committee of the Zambia Sports Expo and Forum held an information sharing meeting with National Sports Federations to discuss their role in the Expo. We are glad to report that we have 100% support and commitment from the Federations. We are also grateful that the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP briefly attended the meeting.

We are grateful to all the Sport Organisations that attended the meeting. This is their Expo. We look forward to more engagements with the Federations and other stakeholders.
