Zambia's mining story is the foundation upon which the nation's economy was built.

For centuries, indigenous communities mined surface copper, crafting tools, ornaments, and trade ingots long before colonial exploration. Modern industrial mining began in 1908 with commercial copper production at Kansanshi Mine, while the commissioning of Roan Antelope Mine in Luanshya in 1928 sparked the growth of the world-renowned Copperbelt.
Following Independence in 1964, Zambia became one of the world's leading copper producers. The industry later experienced nationalisation, privatisation, and renewed investment, transforming mining into the engine of Zambia's economic growth and positioning the country among the world's major copper producers once again.

The story of Zambia's telecommunications industry is the story of a nation becoming more connected.
It began in 1913 with the installation of the first analogue telephone exchange in Livingstone, supporting early administration and mining activities. Following Independence, the sector was managed by the Post and Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) before the landmark Telecommunications Act of 1994 transformed the industry by creating ZAMTEL and opening the market to competition.

The arrival of MTN, Airtel, internet service providers, and digital technologies ushered Zambia into a new era of mobile communication, internet connectivity, mobile money, and digital innovation. We have changed the format from just being an Awarding ceremony but also a learning platform that will stay forever.
