π¦πΏπ² HONOURING ZAMBIA'S BANKING LEGACY 1905
Banking Hall of Fame β National Brand Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Zambia's banking history is a remarkable story of resilience, transformation, and economic growth.
The journey began in 1905, when the first commercial bank opened its doors in Kalomo, laying the foundation for the country's financial system. Over the decades, Zambia witnessed the establishment of the Bank of Zambia in 1964, the creation of ZANACO in 1968 to expand financial services to ordinary citizens, the era of nationalisation, and the economic liberalisation of the 1990s that welcomed a new generation of local and international financial institutions.
Today, Zambia's banking sector stands as a pillar of national development, driving investment, supporting businesses, promoting financial inclusion, embracing digital banking, and empowering millions of individuals and enterprises across the country.
The National Heroes Hall of Fame Honors Awards 2026 proudly celebrates the banking institutions whose commitment to innovation, customer service, economic empowerment, and financial stability has helped shape Zambia's development journey.
As members of the National Brand Hall of Fame β Class of 2026, these distinguished financial institutions are recognised for preserving public trust, supporting entrepreneurship, facilitating trade, creating employment, and contributing to Zambia's economic transformation.
Through the partnership between the National Museums Board of Zambia and the Livingstone Museum, the remarkable history of these banking institutions will be permanently preserved as part of Zambia's financial and corporate heritage, inspiring future generations.
