MBDA Wish You Were Here is an exciting national call to artists to submit work for a visual arts exhibition that will be kick-started on24 April 2014 at the Port Elizabeth Athenaeum. It will run until January 2015, continuing thereafter with a travelling show of the best pieces to the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK), National Arts Festival (NAF), and other high-profile festivals and exhibi
tion spaces. It is a private sector initiative aimed to raise the profile of both Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) and its visual artists. To that end, the organizers of the event have created a high-profile, high-visibility exhibition and follow-up shows focused on a personal vision of NMB as seen through an artistic lens. This effort is endorsed and supported by multiple sponsors and affiliated art and business groups, chief of which is the main and name sponsor: the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA)
The very best of the show will be identified and chosen to form part of the Selectors’ Choice, which will form the core of a travelling exhibit that will be sent across the country in 2015, including, but not limited to, the Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees (KKNK) and the National Art Festival (NAF). The exhibition will feature around 100 of the best artworks carefully selected to identify a high standard of quality, content, and artistic insight. From this pool, Sponsors will be invited to select images and support the artists with the awarding of prizes in order to maximize the appeal, longevity and visibility of the project. To get such a project running we will need the help of sponsors, interested parties able to provide services, and anyone who is passionate about contemporary fine arts and Nelson Mandela Bay. the Open Sponsors and the Main Sponsors. Both offer substantial packages, marketing and advertising opportunities, and tangible benefits such as image rights.
