Maxime Chaumeton is taking South African distance running up a level.

With each race, he keeps showing what he’s capable of. Finishing 5th in a strong field in France, he improved his own national 5km record by another six seconds 13:06 — a clear sign of how consistent he’s been against top competition.

What stands out even more is how close he is to something special. He’s now just six seconds away from becoming the first South African to run under 13 minutes on the road — a barrier that’s been out of reach for years.

He’s already made history as the only South African to break 27 minutes for 10km on the road, which says a lot about his strength and range.
