🚲 MEET THE RIDER | John Zimmer

For John, the 2026 Madtown Bike Jam wasn't just another race—it was his first-ever gravel event.

💬 “The Madtown Bike Jam was my first gravel event and a perfect introduction to the sport: excellent support, interesting terrain, and cheerful people everywhere.”

And while some riders came to Madison ready to race, John came away with something a little different:
💬 “For some, the Madtown Bike Jam was a race. For me—it was a wonderful weekend concluding with a long ride in South Dakota’s lake country.”

That's what Bike Jam is all about. You can come to race, challenge yourself, try gravel for the first time—or simply enjoy a really good weekend on two wheels.

Thanks for making Madtown Bike Jam your first gravel event, John. We hope it won't be your last! 🤘

🚲 RIDER SPOTLIGHT | Meet Chase Wark

We're keeping the Madtown Bike Jam spirit rolling year-round by introducing you to some of the riders who joined us in Madison for the 2026 race!

📍 Hometown: Zimmerman, MN
🚴 Race: Headliner | 100-Mile

We asked Chase a few questions about their Bike Jam experience:

Why did you decide to enter the 2026 Madtown Bike Jam?
💬 I decided to enter the MadTown Bike Jam for a few reasons. The first being the prize purse. It’s really cool that MadTown offers a great prize purse for races. The second being that it’s a good tune-up race for Unbound, with it only being 1 week out. It was a great way to get some speed in the legs. I always love riding my bike in a new location, and MadTown offered that opportunity.

What was your favorite course memory—or favorite memory from your time in Madison?
💬 My favorite course memory is hard to decide. There’s a lot of cool minimum-maintenance roads out on the course that were unique and break up the normal gravel roads that were ripping fast. My favorite overall memory was the post-race hangout downtown.

Why should others consider riding the 2027 Madtown Bike Jam?
💬 Other riders should consider MadTown because it’s more than just a 1-day event. The crew does a great job of making this a family-friendly event, with a Strider course set up the day before and the day of the event, along with a band playing throughout the day. Another reason folks should come out is the course isn’t too challenging, but there are some cool roads that you’ll ride that are different than what you’re probably used to.

Thanks for making the trip to Madison and being part of Bike Jam, Chase! 🤘

The inaugural MadTown Bike Jam welcomed 120 riders from 12 states to Madison over Memorial Day Weekend, creating an estimated $100,000 economic impact for our community.

From scenic gravel roads and live music to community activities and unforgettable experiences, the event showcased the best of Madison and the surrounding countryside while bringing visitors from across the country to Lake County.

A huge thank you goes out to our Presenting Sponsor, Madison Regional Health System, as well as all of our sponsors, volunteers, community partners, food vendors, musicians, public safety personnel, local businesses, and residents who helped make this event a success. 🇺🇸 Happy 605 Day from Madtown Bike Jam! 🚴‍♀️💙

South Dakota is more than a place on a map — it's the gravel roads that stretch for miles, the small towns that welcome you like family, and the people who make every ride memorable.

This year, Madtown Bike Jam brought together riders experiencing South Dakota for the very first time and riders who have called the 605 home their entire lives. No matter where they came from, they all discovered the same thing: there’s something special about exploring the backroads, open skies, and communities that make our state unique.

Thank you to everyone who traveled near and far to ride with us, support our event, and experience Madison. Here's to the roads less traveled, new friendships, and the pride of calling the 605 home.
