Dales Divide

Dales Divide A 600km coast to coast bikepacking route from Arnside to Scarborough and back again! Remember its just riding your bike!

A bikepacking track across the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. Riders challenge themselves, to go as fast as they (safely!) can starting at 8:00am and returning back to Arnside…

Now in its fourth year, the 600km route has become a favourite for riders and racers alike. The route follows gravel tracks, bridleways and some quiet roads to cross from the west coast to east coast

and back of England through the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors national parks. It offers a shorter course for riders who are just starting to try bikepacking and is specifically set to encourage and help newcomers as well as a platform for racers at the pointy end of the 600km course. The route crosses the home town and countryside of Mike Hall and the ride very much encourages his ethos of people just doing their best and being kind to every other rider.

The final rider of the DD2026 has just arrived back in Arnside - A big cheer and applause for Simon F**g 129:50hr. We salute his determination and perseverance - he had three days of pretty poor weather and then three days of glorious weather.

A ride to be celebrated💪❤️👍.

After the dust has settled a bit in the DD back office, we will put some ride stats out and update you on all the fund raising totals and any other DD wash-up news.

At last the weather has improved!
Last night saw a steady trickle of riders come in - Well Done for sticking at it and dealing with all the additional weather adversity this year💪😀👍

We do still have one rider out there - Simon F**g is winding his way over the Moors - keep at it! Also we probably have a number of other riders who have ‘scratched’ and are finding their way back to the finish or home.

We will pop another update out when Simon finishes.

Sadly Eugene Farrell has had to retire, this was his forth attempt to complete the DD! …which means we’ll likely see him again next year🤔

In other news - Justyna Jarczok has had her bike stolen in Leeds, while she stopped at a BP Garage, this was between Leeds Station and the Airport. For more info on this see page. Pretty rubbish for her after being on a High after finishing and winning 😦

The woman’s finish could not really of been much closer!
Four riders come in the space of 3mins, first back in 56:18 is Justyna Harczok (from Poland), she just held off Eva Grange, who had been chasing most of day 2 - spectacular racing💪❤️👍
The other two riders in this sprint were Laurens Dingenen and Stanley McNulty.

No pictures yet - but we’ll get one posted soon😀

The second wave of riders is now coming in with Bryn Appleton leading the charge - 9th place and 51:46hr. Closely chased and by just 7mins is the first ‘pairs’ finishers - Kerry MacPhee & Ashley Cordingly

- Massive Effort you guys and well done for enduring a night ‘shacked’ up in Storm Dave😀💪❤️

After a wild night, with some trees down - Storm Dave has now passed, however today will still be very difficult with winds continuing until the evening and the odd rain/hail shower thrown in.
We have had 8 riders finish, Kit Nisbet being the last in this front group. Chris and I met Kit at Newby Head at around 22:00, we also met Jesse Yates who had not long taken the decision to scratch, looking cold and hungry, one of the Restrap Team had him in their van and were looking after him.
Although Kit looked strong, we agreed he should not go back on to off-road high ground section up Wold Fell especially in the peak of the storm and instead take the road to Cowgill and rejoin the route there (this could save around 60mins, we agreed he would not be penalised for this as he was 2hrs+ from any other riders).
Weather events like these force sensible decision making and kit choice selection - from the map it looked like most riders had found some sort of shelter last night, or instead were riding in a group for safety.
The DD team will aim to make fair decisions on other rider route deviations, keeping safety in mind.
Hopefully when cafes open, riders can get a good meal, warm up and continue the ride.
Kudos to the 8 finishers and kudos to those out there still riding the course or making another return😀💪👍

There has been some pretty tough conditions out there today on day 1 with filthy riders enjoying cakes at CP1😋
Now 13hours in and the leaders have passed through York with Alistair Brownlee at the front, there are some very talented riders this year in both men’s and women’s, with close racing.
As a result of the wind, rain and relentless mud and dirt the ‘scratch’ rate has been quite high.
We wish all those out there and riding either on the route, or having a forced return - a safe ride.
Those return to the parking - we don’t want you to drive tired so take a rest before travelling😀❤️👍

…Storm Dave arrives tomorrow 🙄

# Up Folks - Some Important Parking info # #
👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

There are more riders and vehicles this year, last year the ‘Main Car Parking Area’ accommodated everybody.
This area is accessed from the mini-roundabout on the B6384.

Additional Parking is available accessed via the Haverflatts Road, shown as Entrance 2. Same Combo-Lock number, which will be briefed out at the start and on the DD Parking WhatsApp chat.

This may not get communicated to everyone so please help us out and if you arrive, or see others arriving and struggling to find a free space, then please send them to the other area - SEE MAP.

Note: the two areas are not linked, as there is a fence that separates.

Thanks for reading👍

Pre-Ride Breakfast😋🤗👇

If anyone wants a last minute breakfast, there will be a couple of options at the start line in Arnside:

The Fighting C***s (traditionally the pre and post ride HQ, and where we'll be handing out the trackers) and Sandpipers Cafe (where the trackers are to be returned to at the end of your ride) will both be doing breakfast rolls, tea and coffee, etc. to take away from 7am.

Both establishments are likely to be busy so I wouldn't recommend relying on them for your full breakfast.

There is also a Londis/Post Office next to the Fighting C***s that should be open for sugary snacks etc.

These businesses help us make the Dales Divide what it is and it really helps if we can give them a bit of extra custom, either when you start or finish your ride.
