" We did all we possibly could to keep Luis but we felt as a club it was right for both parties to part ways in the end. During my time here, he (Suarez) was a great help for me on and off the field, not only is he a tremendously gifted footballer but he is also a great man, a family man who will put them first.
After (the Chellini incident) that, the board and i held private discussions and it was then we made our decision. It was a piece of business we agreed alone and there was no influencing factor to hamper our decision. The club will move forward and we will build on a fantastic season."

"It was the right time for me to leave England. My wife's family live in Barcelona and it is my dream to play in Spain so the decision was an easy one for me personally.
I am now prepared to play at a different level of football and now i have a real chance to win titles in a team full of great players.
They (Liverpool) gave me a great opportunity in my career and they also stood by me through the bad times, so I am grateful but it is was time to make the step up.
