Italian Job Team 53! Jon & Gary are returning as champions in the Italian Job Touring Event 2019 The motto is "Raising money for children, in a fun way".

Jon & Wiz are taking part in the Italian Job 2017, entering as Team 69. Launched in 1990, The Italian Job is an annual navigational rally around Italy which raises money for sick or disadvantaged children. The rally is open to Minis, and any car which featured in the original 1969 film - The Italian Job. Jon & Wiz took part in the 2009 Italian Job, completing the rally in what was then a relativel

y new 2006 MINI Cooper S. Much fun was had, but driving a modern car around Europe is not really a challenge. This time we are completing 'The Job' in Jon's 1998 Mini Cooper Sports LE. Standard luxuries include a two speed fan/heater, intermittent wipers, and pop out rear windows. It also has rather hard sports suspension (much to Wiz's pleasure). At 6ft5, the Mini is a squeeze for Jon, and will certainly make completing 2500-3000 miles in two weeks a challenge. This years rally starts on Friday 27th October 2017 in Imola, and we will be grateful for any sponsorship and support that you're able to provide us with. The Mini is a fairly blank canvas, and we'd welcome any corporate sponsors in return for advertising space on the car. We be updating our progress through the year here, and of course posting from the event also. Thanks for reading :)

Italian Job 2019

This year, in 2019 we return to take part in The Italian Job as current reigning champions!

Last year Gary and Jon took the crown in the navigational rally, so naturally we’re coming back this year to defend our title - no team has ever won it two years running in the events 30 year history!

So what is the Italian Job?

The Italian Job is an annual touring event which takes a group of Minis to Italy, to explore off the beaten track locations, race circuits and local producers. Each team entering is encouraged to raise at least £1500 in sponsorship, which is donated to children's charities.

The current nominated charity of the Italian Job is Buttle UK. A fantastic charity supporting children and young people, and a fairly unique charity in that every penny they raise goes to help children. Their own administration costs are covered by a fund put in place by founder, Sir Frank Buttle.

So, in October we'll be taking Ellie (Jon's 1998 Mini Cooper Sport LE) on the 3000 mile trip across Europe. In Italy we'll be visiting Imola, Rome, Reggio Emilia and of course Turin - hopefully without any mechanical maladies.

As it's such a big celebratory year, with the 30th annual Italian Job event, the 50th anniversary of The Italian Job film, and the 60th anniversary of the Mini, we thought we'd set our target high. Rather than the £1500 suggested, we're aiming to raise £10,000.00 - yes, ten thousand pounds.
