Katahimikan; Philippine National Day of Mindfulness
Katahimikan; Philippine National Day of Mindfulness began when three women came together to co-create a day of silence during the height of the presidential campaigns in 2016. Our co-founders are Beth Ong, Imee Contreras, and Dinah Salonga.
While, our vision for Katahimikan is not political, we chose February 25 because it is a national holiday, allowing greater attendance, coupled with the power of peace. Importantly, it is not a means to promote ourselves, our services, our businesses, or any political agendas/ideologies. Our mission is to bring people together from diverse backgrounds in the middle of chaotic Metro Manila to learn and practice Mindfulness as we CULTIVATE LOVE TOWARD ONESELF, KINDNESS TOWARD OTHERS, PEACE IN OUR COUNTRY, AND HEALING FOR THE PLANET. Our vision is to promote Katahimikan or pockets of silence throughout the country with more frequency and bring people together to connect in silence.
