Event Status Update COVID-19

BBMC 2020 competitors.

Longtown Mountain Rescue have unfortunately decided to cancel the Big Black Mountains Challenge this year for reasons we are sure everyone will understand. All entrants will shortly receive an email, with an online form to process the refund of your entry fees.

Changes for BBMC 2018. Whilst the challenge of the longest route (Route A) will remain unchanged from recent years, we have made a change to the other two routes. Both Routes B and C will be run in the opposite direction from usual this year, a return to an older tradition of alternating the direction of the routes each year. So this year the routes will start with the climb of Loxidge Tump before heading off down the Offas D**e path towards Hay Bluff. To achieve this Route B will be shortened to 27km and Route C increased slightly to 17km.

We are proud to announce that Longtown Mountain Rescue Team has today received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary service.
This has been granted for our service to the public for saving lives in remote places for more than 50 years.
The award is in recognition of the work carried out by all the team’s members past and present and they should all be very proud.
