In light of damage sustained during Hurricane Helene, this year's High K**b Hellbender 10k will use an alternate course, ending at Flag Rock Overlook instead of High K**b Tower. This is the final race in Explore Norton VA's High K**b Triple Crown.
🚨High K**b Hellbender 10K Update: Alternate Course for 2024
NORTON - As many of you are aware, Norton and the surrounding area sustained damage from Hurricane Helene last Friday. We have received approval to hold the race this weekend. However, we will be using an alternate route this year. The race will finish at Flag Rock Overlook instead of High K**b Tower.
The U.S. Forest Service informed us today that road conditions and cleanup efforts on top of High K**b will prevent us from taking the race to the summit, which we completely understand and support.
We are excited to still be able to have the race. The new (temporary) course means you’ll run just shy of 5 miles and climb about 1,300 feet in elevation.
If you are thinking of registering for this year’s race, online registration remains open until midnight tonight, Oct. 2: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=109808. We will also have race day registration from 8-9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Please see this link for race day information: https://highknobhellbender.wordpress.com/race-day/.
If anything unexpected changes between now and Saturday, we will post that information here.
As noted in an earlier post, we are donating all proceeds from this year’s race to storm relief efforts in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. When we know more about where we will be directing race proceeds, we will let you know.
We appreciate your support for the Hellbender and look forward to seeing you Saturday.
Sincerely,
Katie Dunn, High K**b Hellbender 10K Race Director
