Hashtag your team for Saturday
Two Will Bite The Dust While The Others Will Be Eyeing Championship Honours. Who will it be? Only time will tell this Saturday October 9th 2020.
Due to Covid-19 protocols in place and the country still under a state of emergency, this weekend’s matches in the will have limited spectators in attendance however the energies will most likely be felt in the bars, living rooms and other locations via online platforms.
The semifinalists are now known and therefore Saturday from 6:00pm the best of the 2020 Parish competition will be going all out with an eye on the coveted prize.
The first of the double header will see St. Patrick Crown City Strikers taking on St. Andrew’s Big Parish Stars. This match promises to be a classic as both teams will be showcasing some of the nation’s best youth and senior talents on display.
Jason Belfon, Irvin Smith, Jeremy Richardson, Chad Phillip, Reigh Alexander, Darrell Pierre, Jamil Rocastle, Earldon Millette, Stefan Abraham, Alec Andall, Saydrel Lewis, Darren Modoo and the likes are feeling it’s time they cop the coveted title. With coach Jake Rennie one of the younger Technical maestros in charge, he will feel this is his time to shine. However Jelani Glean and his technical staff will be thinking otherwise.
The team from the northern parish already knows what it takes to win a title at this level though they surrendered the bragging rights last season. Their team also has some very talented players in the lineup including Brady Charles, Leon Braveboy, Wavel Benjamin, Lister James, Tyler Lewis, Courtney Francis, Deandre Smith, Jose Mc Intosh and Goalkeeper Jo-Max Wildman, one of our better young talent between the uprights.
Time alone will tell when the 90-minutes encounter gets started and the players take to the field. This one can go any direction.
The second encounter dubbed the grudge match and clash of the Titans will see defending champions St. Mark Western Stars coming up against St. George’s Royal Canons who is making their second semifinal appearance in the three years of the tournament.
Lining up for St. Mark under the charge of coach Andrew Munro and his team is an almost complete Arsenal with many players having represented Grenada over the past five years. The likes of captain Moron Phillip, Rohan George (Brother to Rahel and Ryan), Rickel and Lemoy Augustine (brothers) , Markell Ganness, Kareem Coutain, Leaon St. John, the Alexander brothers, (Rahel and Ryan) Jalon Young and Former National Goalkeeper Shadai Mark and his brothers Shamari and youthful national youth talent Sawan Mark will be a lot to handle not forgetting the enigmatic and goal hungry Kriston Julien the tournament leading goal scorer on seven goals. Some say he is hard to stop at any level.
St. George’s Royal Canons is determined to reach their first ever final and coach Anthony Modeste must be thinking about this with one thing on his mind, how to prevent his opponents from stringing their passes and disrupting their play. His team best ever performance was a third place finish n the inaugural tournament in 2018.
The team is considered full of talented players including the likes of Rickel Charles, Voss Robinson considered one of the toughest defender on the island, brothers Trevon Williams, Johnathan Williams, Rayme Williams, Ryhim Griffith, skipper Kwazim Theodore, Arl Romain, Romar Frank, Christian James, Brian Andrews ,goalscorer and National youth player Benjamin Ettienne and national U20 Goalkeeper Trishanna Thomas.
Time alone will tell but fans who are unable to make it to the Kirani James Athletics Stadium can look forward to watching online at many of the platforms being provided by the GFA.
