Fitch is one of the most regarded sources of information regarding governments' solvency, and this decline reminds us how out of control our deficits are. If this continues, the US's credit rating may be downgraded, making it difficult and more expensive to take on the debt to which we've become addicted.

The Platform Committee rejected an amendment to pursue a balanced budget amendment through a convention of the states. The problem is the PROCESS. There is overwhelming support for a balanced budget amendment but people don't trust a convention. We can solve that with Don't Bankrupt America! The states should force Congress to propose the balanced budget amendment just like they forced Congress to propose the Bill of Rights. It's been done before and we can do it again. It's time to be fiscally responsible.
