Historic moment for those who live on one of the five US territories and anyone who believes in human rights! Thanks to the hard work of Right To Democracy, the DOJ has now affirmed that the Insular Cases are racist and deserve no place in US law. These cases are still the basis for many decisions affecting those living in Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa.

What are the insular cases? "The Insular Cases are a series of early 1900s Supreme Court decisions that denied the overseas U.S. territories democracy and self-determination based on the Supreme Court’s judgment that their residents were alien races and savage tribes."

Tomorrow we initiate the new series , where we are opening the space for Candidates to meet the Puerto Ricans in Washington DC and share their platform and ideas in an open conversation. As a reminder, our events are open to all; some of them might be in Spanish.

At Tertulias por la Patria 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 we've been working hard behind the scenes to bring you some great Tertulias in 2020.

We are excited to bring you , a series of Tertulias that, as usual, will create an environment for insightful conversations about issues affecting Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans. Since we are in an election year, we have decided to open up this forum to candidates running for office that have an interest or can have an impact on our community. We will not be endorsing or fundraising for any candidate or party, and a candidate’s participation in a Tertulia doesn't constitute an endorsement.

We strongly believe that we must engage in conversations with these candidates even if we do not align with their views or party, so we can all contribute and support a brighter future for our beloved island of Puerto Rico. Remember, at Tertulias, we do not argue against people; we debate ideas and ideals.
