Statewide, our farmers are facing significant losses following widespread damage to crops, nurseries, and farm infrastructure.

Hawaiʻi Farmers Union continues to serve as a first point of contact for farmer intake and coordination, helping connect impacted farmers to resources and support as recovery efforts continue via the Statewide Rapid Assessment Tool launched in partnership with .

The HFUF Hawaiʻi Flood Response Fund offers family farmers and rural communities relief recovering from recent severe flooding, wind, and extreme weather across the islands. Your support helps restore food access and strengthens the long-term recovery of Hawaiʻi’s local food systems.

We invite you to donate to help ensure farmers can recover and continue feeding our communities.

This effort will include a direct response grant program launching in the coming weeks to reach farmers most impacted. While this is a Hawaiʻi-wide initiative reflecting multiple affected regions, all support will be distributed based on documented need and verified impact. More details for applying will be shared soon via HFU socials, website and e-blast to newsletter subscribers and farms that have reported direct farm damage via the assessment tool as the program is finalized.

Our hearts are with the families and farmers facing flooded fields, damaged infrastructure, lost crops, and disrupted growing systems.

Together, we can ensure Hawaiʻi’s farmers have the resources they need to rebuild and continue feeding our islands.

Farmers who have invested everything and lost it all are left feeling lost and unsure of how to begin anew. They struggle to recoup the time spent clearing heavy brush, building fields and soil, taking out loans, maxing out credit cards, and working other jobs to support their farms. Starting our work before sunrise and ending with headlamps long after sundown, they face the challenge of crops taking a month to three months to mature and tree crops requiring 3 to 5 years to replant before bearing fruit. Wetland lo’i kalo banks, livestock, and other assets will take time to recover, and the future remains uncertain. They worry about the time it will take for their fields to rebuild fertility and the potential for increased soil-borne pathogens and fungal issues in their crops. For those who have fully committed to farming, the realization that insurance won’t cover damaged hoop houses and farm equipment adds to their distress. Crops, fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, wash-pack, and nurseries are all affected, washed away or covered in mud. As we pull together to help each other with water and road access, ditch clearing, and we wait for our fields to dry out enough to do anything. We need to understand what support is out there.

Our HFU North Shore chapter volunteers will be at this Friday with hosting a Farm Recovery Mobile Help Desk. Stop by so we can game plan on ways to help your farm recover together. You’re not alone. We are community and we’ll find solutions!

Waialua/Haleiwa farmers and community, use this tool to help us document and work together to address stormwater infrastructure issues and obstructed waterways across the North Shore of Oʻahu following the March 2026 Kona lows. For best results, enable Location Services for your camera app in Settings

How to use:
Tap any structure, conduit, canal, or stream on the map
Click Report Issue in the popup
Select the issue type, severity, and add photos
Submit — works offline too
Users can tap anywhere on the map to report ponding or land drainage issues.

Data layers:
Stormwater structures, conduits, and basins (City & County of Honolulu)
Drainage canals and ditches (Hawaiʻi DLNR)
Perennial and intermittent streams (DLNR DAR)
Wetlands (USFWS National Wetlands Inventory)

Mahalo for volunteering to develop this tool for HFU.

A little inspiration from Kaipo…Mahalo for this! Mahalo to all the community supporting farmers right now. We need the encouragement from community. Those words mean so much!
