So here I am in the middle of Dallas, parking in a parking spot I’ve parked in hundreds of times before, right next to a median filled with pieces of ground up rubber tires and a bunch of river rock. I get out of my truck, look down and this rock is just sitting there. The little kid in me excitedly says that looks like a scraper but the tired old man in me scuffs thinking no way in the middle of Dallas. I actually go do my shopping come back out and am putting my groceries in the truck and look down again and again the little kid in me excitedly says that’s a scraper. I think to myself it does look like it has been worked so I pick it up and I’ll be danged if it didn’t have tool marks on the edges where it had been struck to make a sharp edge. It’s not the best example I’ve ever found but there’s no denying it’s been worked and no denying that little kid in me was jumping up and down with the same excitement he did sixty years ago at scout camp when he found his first arrow head.

Always and Okie! I think mama (Virginia Braley) served at least one of those items at every supper. Yes I said "supper", I didn't know what "dinner" was until I moved to Texas, ha ha.

It appears to serve up the only official state meal: a heaping plateful of fried okra, squash, corn bread, barbecue pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken-fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas.

I received this post from our cousin Debby J Bridges today and thought I should pass it along.
"It is with a broken heart that I have to tell you that my brother Damon Max Braley Damon Braley went to heaven this morning. Services will be at John Ireland funeral home in Moore,Ok on Wednesday November 8tha at 10:00. There won't be a viewing .Please keep our family in your prayers."
That's Damon in the striped shirt in case you can't tell by that smile. He told me Grandma kept tickling him in this picture. This is how I choose to remember him. Love you cuz.

This is Michael. I've emailed the cookbook to all who asked for a copy. If you didn't receive one, please let me know.

Chris asked if the asterisk next to some recipes meant they were favorites. Not to my knowledge so that is anybody's guess. I know we liked to cook in foil and in the dutch oven.

If and when you should try any of the recipes, please post how they turned out. I think we'd all be interested.

Okay, Braley Clan. I'm sorry this has taken me so long, but we've been busy.

I have transferred my dad's camp cookbook to a PDF file and can email it to any one interested. It's 13 pages long. The copy I have is a mimeographed copy. Some of you "experienced" teachers may remember those days. I made a few editorial corrections and tried to darken a few lighter places. It should be plenty readable, but you may want to may want to make some further refinements to your copy.
