I just love this! We're at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the "main show" that is the culmination of three weeks of the "gem show" that has taken place every year here for nearly 70 years! And this case is a display put on by the Young Mineral Collectors group showing that you don't have to have a huge budget to start a wonderful personal collection! Each specimen in this case sold for less than $100, in some cases considerably less. I found it interesting that there was a fairly even distribution of specimens that were purchased on the Internet as were purchased at shows, especially because these specimens were purchased by young collectors!

I just love fluorite. For many collectors it's their favorite mineral. One reason is fluorite's many colors. Take a look at a few colors I saw today in Tucson.

The Gene and Roz Meieran collection of polished tourmaline slices is truly amazing. Each one shows complex growth that can occur in a single tourmaline crystal. The temperature, pressure and chemical constituents of the water and/or gases in the open-space where the crystals grew must have been continually changing. I saw these today at the HardRock Summit in Denver. Thanks for sharing Roz and Gene!⚒️

One of the many things you'll see at the HardRock Summit tomorrow is a group of cases put together from private collections and museums. This particular case was put together by Mark Jacobson showing some very historical pieces from Colorado locations. I was particularly impressed with the Manebach-twinned Amazonite crystal. Wow! The specimen was found in the Pikes Peak Batholith of Colorado in 1875. It's an amazing single crystal.

I can't wait! Denver's downtown has loads of fine dining choices and the free 16th Street shuttle buses make it easy to get around when I am not at the shows. The minerals this year at the Colorado Convention Center promise to be spectacular! Having the HardRock Summit and the Denver Gem and Mineral Society show under one roof again makes for lots to see.
