This week I made my final outings as fair queen. On Wednesday I traveled to the champaign county fair and yesterday I went to the Mercer County Fair! While at Champaign County, I got to meet with the fair queen and beef queen at the beef show. Since they were occupied with that, after a quick picture we parted ways and I toured the grounds. I made my way through the barns and eventually came across the antique entries. This was perhaps one of the most unique displays I have seen at a fair. It was interesting because it included entire classes of miscellaneous objects. For example, there was an entire class dedicated to strainers. Another was specifically for gravy boats. This was very interesting to me but also a unique thing to see!

Yesterday I ventured to Mercer County. I met with the 1st runner up King. He gave me a quick tour around the grounds and after a picture my dad and I went to find Ron and Cheryl at Triple D Conecessions. After finding them, we discovered that they have a new granny Smith panini! We of course had to try it...and then wash it down with a Donut Burger! Both items were excellent, so thank you Triple D Concessions!

Part 2/2 for today's fair visits:

This afternoon/evening I went to Erie County Fair and Attica Independent Fair! Erie County Fair had a very nice antique display. It includes an old player piano that is still in good condition. One of the volunteers even showed off how great it is by putting a scroll in and let it play as we walked around the building! After leaving the antique display, we ran into the King. He showed us around the fair. When we got to the FFA Building, he said that the FFA Display is actually new this year. I am so glad to hear that FFA is being included in the fair just as 4h is included! Any opportunity to share agricultural knowledge should always be taken and adding FFA Exhibits to a fair are a great way to do this! After parting ways with the king, I ran into the 2024 Junior Little Miss Erie County Fair! She was in the middle of washing her calf but snuck away for a moment to talk to me and take a quick picture. Just before leaving, my mom and I had to stop in at the 4h Ice Cream Booth. They were serving Toft's Ice Cream. Who could pass up an opportunity like that?🤷‍♀️

After Erie County Fair, we headed to Attica Independent Fair. We arrived just after the crowning of the 2025 Court had ended, but I still got to catch up with a few royalty that I met previously this year and even some new ones I had yet to meet! As I wandered around the rest of the grounds, I really liked the kids zone. It included a corn pit, many different mini games, and a portable basketball hoop made from a wagon! Just before leaving, I met the newly crowned Attica Fair Queen. She was super sweet and seemed absolutely excited for the next year as queen! I can't wait to see what she'll accomplish!

Part 1/2 for today's fair visits:

This morning I went to the Ashtabula county fair. As I wandered through the barns, I ran into the queen. She was preparing for the dairy feeder showmanship, but I was able to speak with her for a bit and learn about ashtabula county. Prior to speaking with her, my mom and I noticed there were two different winners on the wall of champions in the steer barn. One was "Best of Show" and the other was "Grand Champion". I asked the queen what the difference was. She said that "Best of Show" encompasses the entire project while "Grand Champion" is simply the Jr. Fair Show Winner. The "entire project" includes a score from Skillathons, Showmanship, and the Jr. Fair Show. The scores from each category are combined and the exhibitor with the highest score wins Best of Show. After parting ways with the Queen, I met the king at the poultry show. He was busy passing out awards so we didn't have a lot of time to chat, but it was great to meet him! From the poultry barn, my mom and I headed to the dairy barn. The dairy barn was certainly full and had quite the variety of dairy cattle thanks to a few families who allow exhibitors to show their animals if they are unable to house a large animal for fair. While viewing the dairy projects, my mom and I also checked out the milking parlor on the grounds. I found it intriguing as it is quite similar to my grandpa's parlor! After admiring the parlor, we headed to the dairy market steer show to meet with the 2025 Fair Princess and 1st Attendant!

After Ashtabula County Fair, we made our way to Cuyahoga County Fair! While there, we were quickly greeted by a junior fairboard member who got in contact with the King's Ambassadors, William and Cooper, to show us around the fair. As we walked around, they explained that the Cuyahoga County Fair doesn't have a fair king or queen but ambassadors instead. This allows for more people to share the duties of king/queen. They also explained that due to it being in a more urban area, the fair is small. All of the 4h animals are in one barn, even horses! This was especially interesting to me because horses are usually located away from the rest of the fair. As we continued through the rest of the grounds, we came across the Bee Building. This building has all things Bees! It is a great educational opportunity for all fairgoers to see the process of collecting honey and raising bees. While in there, I was gifted a bottle of honey from the local honey producers! As we walked down the midway, the king ambassadors explained that new this year they also have a roller coaster ride on the grounds. I just assumed they were talking about the dragon coaster that many ride companies have, but as we got closer, I discovered that they were serious. Cuyahoga County Fair has a full size roller coaster on their grounds! The final thing that I found to be great about the Cuyahoga County Fair was the murals that were painted all over their barns! These murals added the perfect amount of eye catching beauty to what would normally be a blank white wall!

One thing I found each of these fairs to have in common is there effort to provide the public with an education on agriculture! The purpose of agriculture fairs is to provide those who are simply visiting an opportunity to learn about agriculture. Both Ashtabula and Cuyahoga Counties exemplify this effort to education beautifully with many different chances for fairgoers to learn from hands on experiences and also simple posters containing various facts about different animals!

Yesterday, I ventured to Hartford Independent Fair, Richland County Fair, and Holmes County Fair! Hartford Independent was first up and is rightfully known as the biggest little fair in the world! As we walked into the fair, we were greeted by the largest antique tractor display I have seen. From there, my mom and I wandered through the many barns. As we wandered, we saw the beautiful band stand and a band preparing to perform. As we got closer, we learned that it is the band stand for the Licking County 4h Band. This is a band made up of 4h'ers ages 11-19 all across Licking County and some outside of the county. It was originally created with an intent to provide entertainment for the community while also providing young musicians with an opportunity to learn musically while growing relationships with fellow musicians. They hold rehearsals weekly starting in March, a band camp in June, perform multiple times throughout the Summer, and March around the Hartford Fair twice daily for the entirety of the fair. Maybe it is just me still being a band kid at heart, but this seems to be an amazing program for the youth of Licking County! Just before leaving the Hartford Fair, my mom and I gave the Hog Gone It's Good Food Truck a try. It is quite possibly the best food I have ever gotten from a fair! To make it even better, it locally sources its products!

After Hartford County, we made our way to the Richland County Fair. We quickly found our way to the Jr. Fair Office where I met the recently crowned 2nd Runner Up Queen and the 2025 Queen! After a quick guided tour, my mom and I explored the rest of the grounds. It is a great layout with a beautiful flag pole serving as the center of everything. The most interesting thing we got to see while at this fair had to be the little restaurant that was located in the 4h building!

After the Richland County Fair, we went to the Holmes County Fair. As we were wandering the grounds, we ran into Tristan, one of the king attendants. He gave us a tour of the grounds. He started by showing us their great livestock complex. It holds all of their animals except sheep. Tristan explained that the sheep are kept in a large tent outside of the barn and alternate places with the goats each year. Once our tour was over, we ran into some royalty I met previously this year at the Carroll County Fair! It was great to see each other again and catch up! As we were leaving the fair, we couldn't help but stop by Lerch's Donuts! We have seen them at a few other fairs and figured we'd give them a try, so thank you to Lerch's Donutes for the DELICIOUS dozen that you picked out for us!

This past weekend, I went to the Athens County and Ross County Fairs! At Athens County, I ended up parking right next to the fair King, so we quickly became acquainted and I received a tour from him! Some of the fair was still being moved in, so I didn't get to see much of the art hall or 4h and FFA exhibits, but I did get to speak with a few upcoming 4h'ers in the dairy barn! They told me all about what their calves' names are, their breed, and their birthdays! They were absolutely adorable and obviously love their projects! As we continued through the cattle, we also got to see some Texas Long Horn cattle! Being something you don't typically see at a County fair, I thought it was pretty cool to see them there!

After Athens County, my dad and I headed to Ross County! Ross County Fair was also having a lot of their move in on Saturday, so we were limited on what we could see, but when we visited the historical building, we did learn that the fair grounds was used as a camp during one of the world wars. As we continued around the grounds, we got to see some livestock, meet up with the 2024 king along with a past king, and try some delicious food! We had some ocean fresh perch from a local stand and a bacon wrapped porkchop from Porky-Ques!

On Wednesday, I went to Medina County and Columbiana County Fairs! While at Medina County, I got to meet the 2025 Prince and Princess! As I toured around the fair, I really enjoyed the natural beauty of the grounds and their wonderful mural! The greenery present all around was eye catching and allowed for a wonderful environment for both visitor and exhibitor. As we went through the FFA Building, I was especially impressed by the number of hay entries and silage entries! Aside from that and livestock, Medina County also has a fair share of art hall exhibits, especially quilts!

After Medina, I headed to Columbiana County. Like Medina County, Columbiana had a beautiful mural that worked as the perfect backdrop! As I made my way around the grounds, I met one of the princesses! I then met the queen and learned thar Columbiana County actually crowns 6 princesses and 6 princes! As the queen toured me around, I also learned that they have a pocket pet show! This show allows exhibitors (typically cloverbuds) to bring a pet to the fair rather than livestock in order to grow their interest in 4h at a young age without the large amount of work and responsibility that comes with taking typical 4h projects!

Overall these were great fairs to visit and have easily made it on my list of favorites!

Yesterday, I made it to three more fairs! I started my day at the Auglaize County Fair where I had the opportunity to meet with their King and Queen, Marcus and Chloe! It was in the middle of the dairy show so we took a quick tour around the grounds. After the completion of the tour, I sat in the stands and watched a few classes of the dairy show. After the senior division of showmanship, I walked through each of the barns. One thing I really liked about this fair was that they recognize exhibitors who keep their stalls especially clean! It adds some friendly competition that motivates a presentable area for all fairgoers! Before leaving Auglaize, I had to make a stop at Triple D Concessions for a DELICIOUS Donut Burger!

After Auglaize, I headed up to Wood County! Shortly after arriving, I found some royalty court members. They were quite busy working the Milkshake booth and the rabbit show, so after a quick picture, we parted ways, and I continued my way around the grounds. As I walked through the dairy barn, I ran into the 2025 Wood County Fair King. After speaking with him and snapping a picture, I continued wandering through the buildings. When I got to the fine arts building, I was impressed by all of the entries, but especially by the homemade wines class! This is a class I have seen at very few other fairs, and it typically only has about 5 entries. Wood County's class had a whole display case full of entries! I also really liked the bucket decorating competition! It's a unique way to allow exhibitors to express their creativity in an easily presentable way! To round out my adventure to the Wood County Fair, I grabbed a milkshake from the 4h milkshake stand, and it was quite possibly the best fair milkshake I have had. To make things even better, I got to catch up with Madi Lee! I met her at OFMA and we were both top 5 finalists for the competition! Just as we were leaving Wood County, we ran into my dad's doppelganger! (Check the photo if you don't believe me🤭)

Later in the evening, I made my way down to the Preble County Fair! While there, I had the chance to meet their Fair Queen, some of their royalty court, and the Hamilton County Fair Queen! The Fair Queen gave me a quick tour around the grounds shortly after meeting her. One thing I really enjoyed seeing on the tour was the display of past royalty! It presents quite nicely and gives recognition to all those who have earned royalty titles before! After the tour was finished, I headed to the grandstands for the Rodeo. To finish my day of fair visiting, I met a couple of Preble County Livestock Court Members! One of them is actually the sister of a friend of mine from college. Sorry I missed you, but it was nice to meet some of your family Paige Lee!

Today, I ventured to Greene County, Galia County, and Pike County Fairs! I started out at Greene County Fair. I found the Junior fairboard office soon after arriving to connect with their queen. She was busy preparing to show but was able to give me a few minutes of her time for a quick picture. After we parted ways, the Rabbit Queen was available to give me a tour! She showed me each of the barns, and as we walked through the beef barn, we ran into the Franklin County Fair Queen! I met her previously this year, so it was nice to see her again!

After Greene County, my mom and I made our way to the Galia County Fair. When we arrived, we toured the grounds on our own before meeting with the 2024 Galia County Fair Queen at the goat show! We met at the Ohio Fairs Queen Competition in January, so it was wonderful to reconnect!

From Galia County, we headed to the Pike County Fair. We took some time to tour the barns right away. Then, we chose a shady spot to sit and watched some of the horse pulls. After watching for some time, we headed to the office to meet some royalty. My mom and I spent some time speaking with Pike County's Extension Agent, Joy, as we waited for the royalty to finish at the horse show. She has done a lot of traveling to different Ohio Fairs over the years, so it was fun to speak with her about all of the different fairs!

Yesterday, my family and I took a trip to the Ohio State Fair! We arrived just in time to catch a quick picture with my oldest brother and speak with some friends from the dairy barn before they had to go fit a cow for the red and white show. After meeting up with them, we made our way around the fair. While we were viewing the natural resources portion of the fair, the rain storms came through. We tried to wait it out, but wanting to make the most of our time there, we ended up walking through it! We spent the rest of the day a little soggy, but still had a great time!

I've had a busy weekend full of more travel! On Saturday I went to Lake County, Summit County, and Knox County Fairs!

We arrived at Lake County Fair just as they were doing their small animal sale, but there was a queen from a previous year who was available to tour me around the grounds! She was super sweet and even though she isn't a current royalty, she was able to give me a lot of information about the fair. An interesting thing I learned is there are no FFA Chapters in Lake County! As our tour neared an end, we got to see the draft horses go by with their carriages! After parting ways with the past queen, my dad and I ended our visit to Lake County with a milkshake from the dairy bar and a gyro from Nick's Gyros!

After Lake County Fair, we headed off to Summit County Fair! My Dad and I arrived just in time for a rainstorm to pass through. We had just made it inside the gate and under Shari's Wood Carving Tent when it started to rain. We then stood under the tent for at least the next 30 minutes speaking with the Mahoning County Fair King and helping hold the tent down. When it finally stopped raining, we explored the fair grounds. When we made it to the dairy barn, one of the farmers in the barn gestured toward his animals and asked me "Hey do you know what kind of cattle these are?" I took one look and said "Highlands?" I was right and he was quite impressed because I knew the breed! Whether he was joking or not, I'm not entirely sure, but he said that all of the other queens he has asked didn't have the slightest clue of what breed they were! After patting myself on the back for having that bit of trivia knowledge, we continued through the barns. When we arrived at the rabbit barn, I got to meet the fair queen and speak with her for a bit, and later, I got to meet some other royalty members from summit county! We rounded out our visit with some familiar faces from the entertainment side of the fair industry, The Blooms! It's always great to see familiar faces when traveling to the many fairs!

After watching the Blooms performance, my dad and I continued our fair route and stopped in at Knox County Fair! We didn't arrive until later in the evening and it was their last night, so most of the animals had already left, but we still enjoyed going through the barns and viewing what was left. The grounds is quite a bit bigger than what we first thought, so we will definitely have to revisit in the future to fully absorb the Knox County Fair!
