Racism is not profitable—it’s expensive. A 2020 Citigroup study found that systemic racism and economic exclusion have cost the U.S. economy at least $16 trillion over the past two decades, with some estimates pushing that number to $51 trillion in lost output since 1990. The losses span every sector: $13 trillion in missed business revenue due to lack of capital access, $2.7 trillion in lost wages, $218 billion in housing discrimination, and over $113 billion in lost income from unequal education opportunities. Closing these gaps isn’t just moral—it’s economic, with projections showing a potential $5 trillion boost to GDP in just five years. The reality is simple: inequality doesn’t just hurt communities—it shrinks the entire economy.

Congratulations! are being shared for Victor Glover as he prepares to make history on a mission that is inspiring millions.

Victor Glover, a decorated U.S. Navy pilot and NASA astronaut, is set to pilot the Artemis II mission, NASA’s first crewed flight around the moon in over 50 years. This milestone puts him on track to become the first Black astronaut to travel to the moon.

Glover has already broken barriers before, becoming the first Black astronaut to serve as a long-term crew member aboard the International Space Station in 2020. His journey also reflects challenges faced along the way. He has spoken about the weight of representation and the reality that opportunities in space exploration were not always equally accessible, as seen in history when Black astronauts were often overlooked for long-duration missions.

Even earlier in his life, his grandfather was told he could not fly in the Air Force because of his race, a reminder of the barriers previous generations faced. Those experiences have helped shape Glover’s perspective and purpose.

Speaking on his role, Glover shared, “I’m not making Black history, it’s human history,” expressing his belief that space exploration should unite people and be part of a shared human story. He has also emphasized, “Every time you are the first… it’s important for all the people that start where you started.”
