Opening Ceremonies officially kicked off the celebration with energy, pride, and community spirit shining brighter than ever. From the presentation of colors to the powerful moments of reflection and tradition, it was a reminder of what makes Story City so special. Our people, our history, and our shared sense of belonging.

What a day to remember! The first-ever Stanhope State University Lutefisk Eating Contest made its official debut at Scandinavian Days and let’s just say… it was equal parts bravery, tradition, and a whole lot of lutefisk!

Contestants showed up ready (and maybe slightly questioning their life choices) as they took on the challenge of this legendary Scandinavian dish. The crowd brought the energy, the laughs were nonstop, and the competition was nothing short of unforgettable.

A huge thank you to Stanhope State University for bringing this wild and wonderful idea to life and helping kick off what we hope becomes a new Scandinavian Days tradition!
