🔧 Rule Clarification – 2012–2018 Fuel Injection & Air Filter Assembly

We’ve had a few questions about the intent and interaction between Rule 13.8 and Rule 13.22, specifically regarding air filter assemblies for the newer fuel injection systems.

To clear this up — the 2012–2018 fuel injection option was approved only because the original 2009 throttle bodies and components have become increasingly difficult to find. The 2012 system uses a completely different throttle body design that cannot accept the E2990-style filter base listed in Rule 13.8.

That’s why Rule 13.22 was added — to define a separate but equivalent configuration for those using the newer throttle bodies. The Hyper or Sharp Spec EVO filter assemblies are the only approved replacements, and they must be used without velocity stacks to maintain parity with the older setup.

This doesn’t override 13.8 — it supplements it.

13.8 still applies to the 2009-style systems.

13.22 governs the 2012–2018 systems.

When we approved the 2012–2018 injection system, it was strictly to address the shortage of 2009 components — not to open the door for performance advantages. The rule update ensures that both systems remain equal, and the intent has always been to keep the playing field level.

Full clarification is below 👇

🏁 Official Clarification – Fuel Injection & Air Filter Assemblies

Rule 13.22 (added for 2025) clearly governs all cars using the 2012–2018 GSXR Fuel Injection System.

If you are running the 2012–2018 injection you must run the Hyper or Sharp Air Filter Assembly without velocity stacks. Velocity stacks on the 2012–2018 injection are not allowed.

Explanation:

The 2012–2018 throttle body design does not accept the E2990-style base used on the 2009 system.

To ensure compatibility and parity, the only permitted filter assemblies for the 2012–2018 injection are the Hyper Spec EVO or Sharp Spec EVO breather assemblies.

These assemblies do not use velocity stacks, which equalizes performance relative to the 2009 system with stacks.

The 2009 system retains its original configuration (with E2990 and velocity stacks).

Mixing parts between the two systems (e.g., E2990 with 2012 throttle body or EVO breather with 2009 system) is not permitted.

Intent:
This rule was introduced solely to maintain competitive balance after the 2009 assemblies became scarce. There is no performance advantage given to the 2012–2018 system; in fact, the absence of stacks generally results in lower airflow velocity.
