Decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving is controversial enough… but before HALLOWEEN?! Apparently, that’s just downright frowned upon! 😂🎄

Here’s the thing… I usually wait until the day after Halloween, but this year we have EIGHT Christmas trees to put up and decorate, plus all the outdoor garlands and festive touches, in preparation for the Robertson County Historical Society’s Christmas Tour of Homes this December! 🤗

We are SO excited to be part of this year’s tour, but I want to actually enjoy the decorating process. Not scurrying and hurrying… just taking our time and making our 1829 home feel magical for the holidays. ❤️

So, on dreary days like today, we’re bringing out a little Christmas cheer! I even incorporated some of my fall florals into this tree so Thanksgiving can still have its moment. 🥰🍂🌹

After all, when you have eight trees to decorate, October doesn’t seem quite so early! 😉

Some of the most important work behind an event rarely gets seen. 🤍 I’m so grateful for our setup and teardown crews who do the heavy lifting, quite literally! From setting the chairs and creating the arches, to putting everything back after the last guest leaves, their hard work makes each beautiful event possible.

It’s Fall y’all 🍁 🍁 🍁

After purchasing a historic home, I’m learning something very quickly: people love to tell you what you should do with it. 😂 While I appreciate the suggestions, I’m taking my time and learning to listen to the house. She’s from 1829, y’all… and she has opinions!

Someone recently asked, “Are you going to get rid of these dark colors and lighten it up a bit?” I laughed. I did whites and neutrals in my last house, but that’s not what this house wants. We’re keeping the moody and dramatic.

Someone else recently told me an antique looked like “me” like “my style” and I immediately thought of Alex Hitchens in the movie Hitch:

“‘You’ is a very fluid concept right now. You bought the shoes. You look great in the shoes. That’s the you I’m talking about.” 😂

That’s me right now. “Me” and “my style” are VERY fluid concepts! I bought an 1829 house because I love a good design challenge. 🤗 I find the 1800s wallpaper? I’m installing the wallpaper. I find an antique that belongs here? Welcome home.

I’m learning to listen to her, honor what she is, and have fun along the way. The house wants what the house wants. I’m just the girl holding the wallpaper paste. 😂

The Estate Garden, with our historic home framing the beginning of your next chapter.
The Vale, a beautiful open field on the left side of the estate, with fields as far as the eye can see.
