Ski North America 100

Ski North America 100 The quest to ski them all! We both love skiing, travel, and the excitement of exploring new ski resorts.

The list was formed in 2013 when we realized we have skied many places together but it would be fun to make it a project to explore 100 different resorts in our life time together. We have our own criteria in determining what ski areas to be included in our top 100 list. So it may or may not be the "top" 100 resorts. Ron maintains the web page for the project. But AiRung thought it would be fun to create a page to share our experience with the community of friends.

This might be the last day skiing for us in the Northern hemisphere until the new season starts in November. We thought it was over in late March after the heatwave, but April delivered us typically March weather and here we are skiing at on May 9th. There was pretty good coverage and very few people even on a Saturday, but it’s melting fast.

Ski the Six!
We purchased the IKON pass this year intending to hit the Utah Ikon resorts especially Deer Valley. We are here for 2 weeks and ended up skiing the six major ski resorts! Our best experience… Solitude! Plenty of groomed blacks 😁

The Skinorthamerica100’s are at today. This is the first day of a two week trip in Salt Lake City and Park City. It was unusually warm, but conditions were pretty nice in the morning with a couple of inches of fresh snow to smooth things out.

Another classic powder day. 11” reported at 6am and dumping all day. The usual routine was followed with long traverses from the Canyon chair over to Lift Line and Ellie’s until Sky opened. Best runs were those Ellie’s ones before everyone started using the high track that I put in. Pinnacles was great after Sky opened. Then more trail breaking on our neighborhood afternoon XC skiing!

Cornet Peak is the closest ski area to Queenstown. A mere 25 minute drive from town. Just like The Remarkables, the ski area mostly relies on snow making in a dry year like this year. Only two main lifts and a T-bar serve most of the mountain. However, each express lift (Cornet Peak and Green Gates) provide about 1400 vertical of steep icy runs. So, in away, although a smaller ski area, it packs a punch!
The Cornet Peak Express offers non-skiers going up to the peak. The Peak Gondola takes you to just below the summit of the mountain then you have to walk up to the summit for the Queenstown Basin view.
We didn’t do it. Busy skiing 🤪

SkiNorthAmerica100 has arrived in the Southern Hemisphere. We are skiing the Remarkable and Coronet Peak because they are included in the full Ikon Pass that we purchased for 25/26. So why not! 😁
Due to lack of fresh snow this season, we set our expectation low for snow conditions. However, with snow making, we were able
to have decent skiing on piste and a couple of off piste exploration.
Just getting up the mountain from Queenstown though was “remarkable” in its own way. (See pic)
The lifts are worthy of mentioning. With all three main lifts being 6-pack high speed, they can move a lot of skiers on mountain!
The ski area lodge serves grab-n-go meat pies. Our goal is to try every flavor while we are here in NZ. 🤣

It’s 12 years since we started our project to ski top 100 ski resorts in North America. The 100th always seemed elusive due to ski area mergers (Park City and the Canyons; Squaw and Alpine) and potential privatization (Homewood). We finally are able to put a finishing touch with . Thanks to our son .way that made the 100 sign for us. We drew attention and a very warm welcome by the staff and the GM Matt at the Ski Area. The ski area did not disappoint! With 3 main chairs and a beginner chair servicing the mountain, there are plenty of groomed runs to keep you busy if you just want to cruise around. The upper mountain and the ridge top offers plenty challenges for the advanced skiers. With top to bottom of ~2200 vertical feet of bliss, this resort solidly deserves to be among our top 100th. We will put up our detail review of this ski area soon on our web blog www.skinorthamerica100.com

Back home... After our great trip to Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee just before Christmas, we came back to California to do some skiing closer to home. We hit Dodge Ridge on Christmas day which is always a great uncrowded day to ski. It's covered by our Cali Pass and we had vowed to make it there at least once this season. ...
