“Well, look who decided to show up again,” said the Square.

“You know you missed us,” replied the show cars.

“Maybe a little. Things get pretty lively when you roll into town.”

“And let’s be honest… we do look pretty good parked against these beautiful Historical brick buildings.”

“Can’t argue with that,” said the Square. “You bring a certain energy with you.”

“And you bring the backdrop. We’ve been making each other look good for years.”

The Square smiled.

“You know what I enjoy most?”

“What’s that?”

“Watching what happens when you arrive. Families strolling around. Friends catching up. Kids picking their favorite ride. People shopping, eating, laughing, and lingering a little longer than they planned.”

“That’s our favorite part too,” the show cars replied.

Because that’s one of the things we love about Shelbyville.

The show cars may bring the shine. The Square may bring the setting. But together they create a place where people gather, stories are shared, and memories are made.

And honestly, we’re all a little spoiled when we get to enjoy both at the same time.

There’s something honest about standing in the in-between.

At an intersection where history still stands tall… while signs of new energy glow just a few feet away.

A courthouse that has witnessed generations.
Old stories still echoing while new ones quietly begin.

That in-between space matters. To stand in the intersection between what was… and what could be.

Because that’s where conversations happen.
That’s where ideas get tested.
That’s where collaboration is formed.
That’s where cities decide if they’ll simply age… or intentionally evolve.

And honestly… there’s something beautiful about catching a city mid-sentence.

Like any intersection, maybe the lesson is simple: pause before crossing. Honor those already in motion. Look both ways toward where we’ve been and where we’re headed and move forward with intention.

Forget Netflix… we’ve been binge-watching Shelbyville.

There’s something powerful about seeing your own community reflected back to you, through the stories of businesses and industries that have shaped Shelbyville for generations. From places that have been here for over a hundred years, to those nearing a century, to family stories passed down through time, these are the shops, spaces, and people that make up the very essence of our community.

Sometimes we pass these places every day without fully knowing the stories inside their walls or the legacy they carry.

Big appreciation to WKRN Channel 2 for helping shine a light on the stories that make Shelbyville so special.

Look who was there to greet us on the way back into town.

A little fresh perspective.

It’s amazing how something new can begin shaping the way both locals and visitors experience the place we call home. First impressions matter. So do reminders for the people who pass these streets every day, that Shelbyville is still telling its story, still evolving, still making room for beauty.

Welcome to Shelbyville… where history and hope keep introducing themselves to each other.

Shelbyville will be featured on WKRN Channel 2’s “2 On Tour” special coverage throughout the day, highlighting the stories, history, traditions, growth, and places many of us pass by every single week.

There’s something special about seeing the place you call home reflected back to you.

Pride of place matters.

Supporting local matters.
Investing in where we live matters.
Telling the stories of our city matters.

So if you need us tomorrow morning… we’ll be tuned in with coffee in hand, taking in a story that feels beautifully familiar.

Tune in, Shelbyville.

A Tale of Two Worlds… and the Space Between

Some places don’t just sit between buildings…

They sit between stories.

Between what has already spoken…
and what is still waiting to find its voice.

I stood here today and realized this little tucked-away space is more than an outdoor patio.

It feels like a metaphor.

A quiet bridge between two worlds.

To the left…Glass Hollow.
A beautifully reimagined chapter housed inside the historic Knox Pitts Hardware building. Brick, texture, craftsmanship… a space that honors its bones while confidently stepping into something new. Conversation upstairs. Hospitality downstairs. Intimate corners where old walls have found fresh purpose without losing their soul.

To the right…something quieter. Darker. Waiting.

A structure with its own long-standing place in Shelbyville’s story. A reminder that not every historic building is currently alive with movement… but silence does not mean the story is over.

And right in the middle?
The space between.

An intimate patio.
A connector.
A threshold.

One side says, “Look what’s possible when history is reimagined.”

The other whispers, “Don’t forget me. My chapter isn’t done.”

And maybe… that’s exactly where Shelbyville-Bedford finds itself right now.

Between preservation and activation.
Between memory and momentum.

Between honoring what built us… and imagining what could bring us together next.

Because transformation doesn’t always happen in the loud, obvious places.
Sometimes it happens in the in-between.

The overlooked corridors.
The connective tissue.
The spaces most people pass by without realizing they’re looking at possibility.

This little corridor feels like more than brick and concrete.

It feels like a civic metaphor.
A reminder that meaningful progress isn’t choosing between old and new

…it’s building the bridge between them.
Because the goal was never to erase history.

The goal is to help it breathe again.

Shelbyville doesn’t need to become something else to move forward.
It simply needs to reconnect what already exists and invite people into the story.

Sometimes a normal drive turns into a pause.

A quick glance out the window becomes a full stop because something quietly reminds you, this is where I live.

That’s the power of murals.

They do more than fill blank walls. They reflect a city back to itself.

Its traditions. Its stories. Its icons. Its industries. Its faith. Its movement. Its possibilities.

There’s something deeply human about seeing your community represented in color and creativity. It creates a sense of place. A sense of belonging. A reminder that where you live has history worth honoring and a future worth imagining.

Studies have shown public art can strengthen civic pride, reduce social isolation, deter vandalism, and even help spark economic revitalization but honestly, some things you feel before you ever read the data.

This new mural at 106 Elm Street did exactly that for me.

What was once just another drive became a moment of reflection.

Grateful to artist Jake Mullen that designed it and the 15 volunteers from Experience Community Church who poured 164 combined hours into creating something bigger than paint.

Because when a city can see itself… it often begins believing in what it can become.

First across the finish line in 17:58 with a blazing 5:48 pace…congratulations to Sean of Wartrace ,Tn at this year’s Connected Community 5K

A powerful finish for a purpose bigger than the race, helping create new opportunities for Bedford County educators through teacher grants.

First to finish. Impact that keeps going.
