What could be better than getting an email like this from a happy student? We love seeing our students progress!

"I won all my games today! 🎉

Thank you so so much for your patience and helpful tips and lessons. I’m getting so much more comfortable on the court and it’s paying off!

Also, I did the speed up thing and was even able to aim it well to where I wanted it to go!

This is amazing!"

One of the things I love about teaching pickleball is that sometimes small discoveries can lead to big changes.

In a lesson this morning, I noticed my student pressing her lips together just as she was about to serve. It led to a discussion of tension--in her body, in her paddle grip, and out in the world in general. In addition to some other techniques we were working on, I asked her to try a particular kind of breath (in through the nose, out through the mouth) as a cue to relax her body and loosen her grip on the paddle.

Her next several serves were strong, deep, and powerful! Once she relaxed, she was able to use the power of her body to drive her serve. The change was remarkable. She commented that learning to stop tightening up will serve her well in other areas of her life.

Not every lesson has a big aha moment like that, but it's helpful to start noticing our habitual ways of doing things. Some habits serve us well, while others used to, but no longer do. Awareness is the first step toward change.
