A family swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz makes for a great addition on vacation. Well done!

“People are jealous of what you’ve got, not how you got it.” - Jimmy Carr

Marathon swimmers don’t just train when the water is flat and comfortable. Training through varying conditions, water temperatures, bodies of water makes the big swims happen. Long demanding sets in the pool, weight training, and time in the open water… makes it all happen.

It’s Thursday ☀️ so let’s make it a quick swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge. 10km in just over 90 minutes with a fast flood. ☀️

Congratulations, John-Charles Curley of Dublin, Ireland who completed the 21-mile Circumnavigation of San Francisco this morning in 06:06:42.

The course circumnavigates San Francisco County, from the county line on the Pacific to the county line inside the Bay at Candlestick. It's stunning, challenging and fast-moving when conditions are just right!

John brings a list of swims from around the globe - various swims in Ireland including the North Channel; English Channel, Lake Titicaca, Strait of Juan de Fuca, Round-Trip Angel Island and quiet a few more!

Clare O’ Connor made a return visit to San Francisco with John to crew his swim. Always a delight!

Aaron Jarvis served as Observer for the Northern California Open Water Swimming Association.

Flashback to the strangest day we can remember in SF…
September 9, 2020
We swam a Round-Trip Angel Island despite it appearing to have bad air quality. But the AQI was fine, San Francisco only appeared to have become hell… 😈

Congratulations, Lauren Signorino of Redondo Beach, CA who completed the 4-Islands 14-mile/22.5km marathon swim today in a time of 5:57:39.

Lauren had beautiful conditions including a gorgeous moon behind Alcatraz. Water temps were a balmy 63-67F.

Lauren’s husband Alex crewed the swim and Lauren Lesyna served as Observer for the Northern California Open Water Swimming Association.

Flashback to 6 years ago…

Zach Margolis is an hour into the 21-mile circumnavigation of SF, which he successfully completed in 5 hours 45 minutes.

Zack is one of the ‘Speedy Boys’ in SF swimming and we chose a big flood for his attempt… Zach did the harder part.

Wait for when he realized I was filming… 🤣

Start: SF county line near Daly City, south of Ocean Beach.

Finish: Hunters Point/Candlestick Point, at the SF county line in the bay.

This was taken near Pt Lobos, just north of Ocean Beach, before we get to Mile Rocks.
