So you don't miss wonderful local artists like:
Iconic Dick Gregory's daughter, Ayanna Gregory
Continuing her father Dick Gregory’s legacy of love, healing, and ongoing fight for community justice and human rights, Ayanna Gregory is an award-winning Soul singer, dramatist, educator and activist who has carved a profound niche where art serves as a catalyst for social change and personal healing. As the daughter of the legendary comedian and Human Rights activist Dick Gregory, Ayanna inherited a life steeped in the struggle of the “Freedom Movement,” a mission that defines her work. Growing up, she interacted with legends like Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. Always willing to use her voice for social justice, Ayanna can also be found in the streets, marching and demonstrating on behalf of marginalized people everywhere. Ayanna’s artistic journey has evolved into theatre with the creation of a poignant one-woman show, “Daughter of the Struggle”. Described by Martin Luther King III as “magnificent and inspiring!”, this performance chronicles Ayanna’s incredible journey growing up as a child of the Civil Rights Movement. As a singer/songwriter Ayanna performs around the globe ~ From sacred spaces to amphitheaters, Ayanna brings her own musical blend of Soul Music infusing R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel, Reggae, Acoustic Soul and World Music. As Tavis Smiley stated, “Through her stylistic versatility, Ayanna takes listeners on a musical journey beyond commercial radio.”
