The NVGFF is proud to announce the Third Annual Noe Valley Girls Film Festival to be held on Saturday, September 8th at 4:00 pm at the Noe Valley Ministry and its key note speaker, San Francisco Noe Valley award-winning filmmaker, Atsuko Hirayanagi. Atsuko’s films have won prizes at Cannes, Sundance and Toronto Film Festivals, and she was recently named one of the 20 Rising Women Directors You Need to Know by IndieWire and was nominated at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature Film.

The NVGFF seeks to encourage and motivate young innovative female filmmakers and is the only international film festival for girls 14 and under which is also organized, produced and run entirely by San Francisco middle and elementary school girls.
The NVGFF invites elementary and middle school girls to submit short films up to 5 minutes for a chance to win $350 for a first place prize, $200 for second place and $100 for third place awarded in each age category (elementary and middle school). Submissions are due by August 21, 2018, and the finalists are expected to be announced by September 1, 2018. Films will be judged by professional filmmakers on a variety of criteria including a film’s entertainment value, creativity, story, filming technique, theme (message) and over-all film quality.
Each of the 1st and 2nd Annual NVGFF Film Festivals drew packed audiences of over 300 people and presented over 11 films at each festival from film submitted by girls from around the world. Winning films have come from around the world and across the country with winners including girl film makers from Toronto, Vancouver, Boston and San Francisco.
Founders of the NVGFF include two sets of sisters- Charlotte (age 14) and Caitlin (age 12) Kane and Ella (age 15) Marks and Maggie (age 12) Marks, all who attend the Hamlin School. Joining the core NVGFF Team is a 2016 NVGFF winner, Hannah Tawadrous (age 14) and Eleanor Mullen (age 12). Charlotte, Hannah and Ella will be attending High School this fall. The NVGFF will be looking for new volunteers to join the team for 2019!
