Let's Talk Hoop with VincyHoops: From someone who knows how this works, it was clear this was coming from a mile away. AD has been saying throughout his career that he's a power forward, not a center. He doesn't want to initially guard the opponent's center and get beat up on; instead, he wants to play help-side defense because he's a great shooter, blocker, and has great timing. This will also allow him to switch off and guard smaller players, which is rare for bigs in this day and age. It also allows him to get in his bag offensively. If he's beating himself up guarding the opponent's big, then he doesn't have much energy for offense, and he's going to get hurt, which is what's been happening. AD and the Lakers weren't seeing eye to eye, so he made it public a couple of weeks ago. Now he's hurt, so the writing is on the wall. And Bron knew; as hoopers who care for a teammate like a brother, the first thing we're going to say is "take care of you." I agree with AD that the Lakers weren't using him the right way. The one time they did, they won a championship.
Plus ratings are low and the NBA is and entertainment business.
