I’ve had Honey 15 years today. What a 15 years it’s been, the best rescue horse there ever will be ❤️
My Heart Horse, Honey
She may not move like she used to,
And her joints may creak with every other stride.
Her steps may be a little slower now,
But she’s still my favorite place to hide.
That little sway-backed sorrel mare,
With a face I’ve known for years,
Has carried more than just a younger me
She’s carried dreams, and joy, and tears.
Over half my life has passed with her,
Through seasons, storms, and change.
While I was growing into who I am,
She was there through every age.
She knew me when my world was smaller,
When my dreams were wild and free.
Before I knew what life would ask of me,
She was already part of my story.
We’ve watched the years go flying by,
And neither one’s untouched by time.
My childhood’s written in her footsteps,
And her heart is stitched into mine.
She’s not the horse she was back then,
And I’m not that little girl.
But some things time can never take,
No matter how it turns the world.
So let her take the longer path,
And let her walk instead of run.
There’s no need to chase the finish line
When the best part’s what we’ve done.
I’ll never ask her to be younger,
Or wish away the years we’ve known.
I just hope she understands somehow
She’ll never have to grow old alone.
For I have loved her through my growing,
Through every high and every low.
And if there's one thing time has taught me,
It's that some loves only deepen as they grow.
