Our 11th year has arrived - wow! The Chris Mohler High Five Classic is on our doorstep! The voice of our treasured event will forever be missed but he will be there in spirit, crushing a cold one, smiling from ear-to-ear, and celebrating the “stoke” pouring over…
Teams are set, pits are dialed, the crowd is forming (32 teams this year!), and the weather is looking to be ideal for a dip in the pool!
Once again, the tourney will be hosted by the Fish Bowl, Oasis, and the our newly constructed, HOA funded, dreamy Willow Park Pits (right in our neighborhood - it’s a short walk, quick bike ride, or luxurious golf cart es**rt)!
We will be roaming a bit more of the neighborhood (i.e. park is at the end of the Canopy Tree Street). Feel free to bring a bike, skateboard, etc. but know it’s a short and very easy walk. As in the past, let’s please be respectful to all in our beautiful neighborhood.
Bring a reusable cup for the park - we’ll want to be discreet about our beverages. There will be a recycling can (and trash can) in the park, let’s keep it sparkling clean.
Games/locations will be assigned as pits open. Our “little” tourney is now massive and way too big to be hosted by only one set of pits. A true horseshoe champion is the chameleon who easily adapts to any well-groomed pits, plays with the crowd at their back or leaning against them, and embraces the opportunity to dance wherever the brackets send them.
We will be using a new app this year to manage comms - GroupMe. QR code available at the end, download app, then we will all be in a group that can share messages, pictures, game results, dinner time, etc.
Teams are set and we will be rolling the balls and filling in the bracket prior to gameday.
As in the past, the party planning commission is forever committed to improving the “experience” of the Chris Mohler High Five Classic!
Here are a few details for Saturday’s (5/24) festivities:
9:30am – 10:30am – all tournament participants please show up for registration, little practice time, seeing your old buddies (or new ones)
10:45am – fly over, fireworks, National Anthem, and the dance begins!
Post 10:45am – lots of horseshoes, high-fives, helping hands and in general great vibes!
Worth noting – make a point to know where you’re playing next. We will be announcing games on the GroupMe app. Our hope is to keep the dance moving so it’s a non-stop parade of ringers, high fives, good competition and of course sampling of general revelry.
What to bring:
A great attitude, blanket or chair for the grass, swimsuit, towel, picnic lunch (grill is available to everyone), and of course your favorite beverage.
When you arrive, please pick a spot on the grass (back by the pool/trampoline) and settle all your stuff down there. This will help keep plenty of room for kids, parents, party-goers alike to frolic between the house, horseshoes and the pool.
Our home offices are off limits - please ask the kids to respect that, thanks!
What else to expect:
We’ll be providing some beverages but please bring your favorites to share. Additionally, we’re going to have snacks out throughout the day and have a dinner catered (5pm-ish), but please bring lunch with you!
The High Five Classic is a celebration of many things – friends, family, horseshoes, etc. This will be a mixed crowd, young and old, please keep in mind as you enjoy yourselves.
Fyi on the pool –Please please please keep an eye on your little ones and others; especially around the pool. And if you child does not know how to swim, 100% they need to be wearing some sort of floatation device. Noodles are fine in the pool, but no large floaties…they can be dangerous when there are lots of folks in the pool. We plan to have a couple young hunky lifeguards too just in case one of the adults falls in the pool.
We typically close the pool at dinner time (to set expectations for the little ones).
Tournament fees are $120/per team. Spectators fly free as do children.
There will be an “info booth” for the first hour if anyone has questions day of (i.e. what’s the wifi code, do you have an extra towel, my kid just s**t on the lawn, do you have a bag, etc.) most of you have played here though and know your way around...don't be shy.
So excited to see everyone on Saturday!!! Please ping Fisher, Dougy or any of the usual suspects if you have questions (or post them here as I know we have likely forgotten something).
Thank you again to Curt for opening up his backyard once again and for letting us win all these years (a time honored tradition!).
We can’t wait to see everyone and share an awesome day!
