Part 1 of the interview with the Chicago Horn Loudspeaker Guys
The Chicago Horn Loudspeaker Guys took a long road trip to the Motor city (Detroit, Michigan) to visit some old friends, and to highlight their systems. This is the first one in a series of upcoming episodes that will feature the History of Classic Audio Speakers, the Classic Audio Speakers Model T3, the Classic Audio/JBL Hartsfield, the Edgar Horn System and last but not least, and variant of the Altec Lansing Model 18.
In this episode, we are featuring Mr. John Wolff. Together, we performed a deep dive into the Legendary JBL Paragon, owned by proud Papa John (pun intended). The founder, owner, designer, manufacturer of Classic Audio Speakers (formerly Classic Audio Reproductions). John has owned this for more than 50 years. We discussed the design, the construction, the driver complements of this masterpiece by JBL, as well as their smaller siblings: the less well known Metregon and the Minigon. John also talked about the upgrades that were done to his Paragon that seriously improved its fidelity.
We may consider this as Part 3 of the History of JBL.
How did they sound? Do the "suck" as many have claimed over the years? Watch this episode and find out. To us, this is a must listen to system. We are glad that John gave us the chance to experience it.
To summarize the upgrades to the Paragon:
1. Change tweeter from 075 bullet to 077 slot
2. Upgrade crossover components
3. Upgrade the internal wiring

Our Audio is not "perfect" in these videos but we still hope you can bear with us. The logistics associated with a long road trip caught up with us. We apologize to you all in advance. It is ironic as some of you have pointed out to us, that a couple of SOUND GUYS can't seem to get their sound acts together. Your points are noted. Please bear in mind we are doing this as a labor of love. No one pays us. We pay out of our own pockets. At least we now know what we did wrong and the issue hopefully, Shall Not Be Repeated.
Hope you enjoy the content. Especially for anyone watching outside the US. Our friends in Canada, Germany, UK, France. Australia, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, Brazil. etc. Cheers
