The mission of the Reno Reading Trail is to foster a love of reading among children and families in our community.

We are partnering with local businesses to give families a whimsical way to explore the community and read aloud together this summer. Whether you visit one stop or all of them, you are modeling the importance of reading to your children. You are showing them how to find joy exploring the pages of a book together.

The Reno Reading Trail is partnering with RennerVation Foundation! When you join us at trail activities, you are helping us donate books to children in foster care here in Northern Nevada. We'll have a big Trail's End party in August with a book fair and a raffle featuring items donated by the trail stops. All the proceeds, and a matching grant from PaperPie, help us purchase brand new books for the RennerVation Foundation!

It’s time to meet another Reno Reading Trail stop: introducing Monsters & Mayhem Games!

Monsters & Mayhem Games is your one-stop shop for all things tabletop gaming... Trading Card Games, Board Games, Roleplaying Games, Card Games, and Mini Wargames and all the accessories to go with them. You won't find any digital here; it's all about unplugging and leaving the outside world outside. We believe game time is for social interaction and community and making new friends with common interests. We run weekly gaming events of all sorts, and we even have community paint days and a craft night. Come visit us, play a game with friends and family, and enjoy!

We asked each of our employees about their favorite childhood books; here’s what they said:

Tony: The Peanuts Gallery
Holly: The Secret Garden
Aspen: The Giving Tree
Aylin: The Magic Treehouse
Kaelin: The Mysterious Benedict Society
Madi: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Oliver: No, David!

We’re open
10-10 Monday through Saturday
10-8 Sunday
Closed the first Monday of each month

No reading trail on Thursday and Friday nights; we have large regular events at those times and it can get really noisy.

Reading aloud to our children has incredible benefits. It reduces anxiety and stress in both the reader and listener. It is indispensable for instilling patience and boosting attention span, which helps children learn better in school. It creates a calm, dependable, safe place in the chaos of the world. But, did you know, when your child reads (or asks you to read) that book over and over, that they are actually gaining vocabulary skills beyond that first reading? They pick up on different context and language cues in each successive reading, learning new words and how they work and why they’re important in the story. So go pick up that book you haven’t read to them in a while and know that, in the mix of all the benefits of reading aloud, you are also giving them a valuable vocabulary boost, too!
